The Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia will convene the 31st Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) on 22 – 24 May 2017 at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. This prestigious event is organized collaboratively with the ASEAN Institutes of Strategic and International Studies (ASEANISIS), a network of Southeast Asia’s most prominent think-tanks.

Over the last three decades, the APR has brought together great minds from around the world to ponder, reflect, debate and explore solutions on the region’s strategic challenges. In recent years it has been ranked among the world’s top 20 think-tank conferences. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Hon. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, has agreed to deliver the Keynote Address and officiate the roundtable.
The APR has in recent years attracted the participation of over 300 policymakers, scholars, journalists and opinion leaders. We look forward to welcoming them once again to engage in robust and constructive discussions on a wide range of issues impacting the security, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the conference focuses on the theme of “The Future of the Asia Pacific: Issues and Institutions in Flux.”
Among the topics for discussions are: “New” Major Power Relations and Dynamics in the Asia Pacific; In Conversation: Asian Views on America’s Role in Asia; ASEAN: Is Change Inevitable?; Tensions in Cyber Space: Balancing National Security, Privacy, and Innovation; Strategic Update: Southeast Asia and Oceania; Strategic Update: Northeast Asia; Whither Economic Cooperation in the Asia Pacific: More Ingredients for the Spaghetti Bowl?; Mekong Cooperation: Managing Challenges and Expectations; Irregular Migration: Regional Flows and Impact; Military Modernisation in the Asia Pacific: Motives, Trends and Transparency and Exceptionalism vs. Integration: Nationalist, AntiGlobalisation and Anti-Establishment Politics.
