The details of the 2-day workshop are as follows:

Day/Date : Wednesday-Thursday 2–3 August 2017

Time : Refer to the programme

Venue : IKIM Grand Hall, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia, 2 Langgak Tunku, Off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Kuala Lumpur.

Introduction

Promoting the discourse on Islam as a civilisational force is key to nurture and mainstream a universal discourse about sustainable development. The future of the Islamic civilization in particular and the world civilisation in general is underpinned by the building of a new discourse for an "innovative and sustainable culture" along with institutional and technological infrastructure for sustainable innovation. The innovation-sustainability nexus implies the need to define key conditions related to renewal and innovation (tajdid) to form an identify and a sense of unity within global diversity and to revitalize a renewed Islamic discourse that deepens and contextualizes the notion of a "community of the middle path" (ummah wasat). Additionally, it requires to develop practical models of living lightly on earth (zuhd) and examples in conserving water, energy, and food.

Objective

i) To explore sustainability science, its imperatives, and its potentials within the
discourse of Islam;

ii) To identify issues not limited to religion, ethics, science, laws, and regulation
in sustainability science;

iii) To build capacity and awareness on sustainable development focusing on
water, energy, and 'green' mosques;

iv) To explore ideas for policy inputs and the formation of standard operating
procedures (SOP) to industrial players of sustainability science as well as the relevant authorities.

Program outcome

This 2-day workshop hopes to instill awareness of religious imperatives and motivate attitudinal change on Sustainability Science. With exposure to the speaker's vast experience in sustainable development and management, the sessions can enrich participants' knowledge and thought processes. It is hoped also that responses and insights gathered during roundtable sessions can help form useful inputs for the formation of standard operating procedures (SOP) and policy suggestions to parties involved with the discourse and implementation of Sustainability Science in Malaysia.
