With advances in medical knowledge and technology including in neuroscience and neurotechnology, the future of mankind is expected to change radically as these innovations bring about many issues and challenges which are not easy to be deliberated upon using only conventional ethical guidelines and framework. In truth, the developments seen in neuroscience and neurotechnology are multidisciplinary in nature as they involve a wide range of disciplines such as religion, culture, and law aside from science and medicine.

What is apparent is that rapid progress in neuroscience and neurotechnology has brought about the need for deliberations of its ethics. Neuroethical deliberations are extensive in scope, including (but not limited to) issues of neurocognitive enhancement, brain imaging, stem cell therapy, neuromarketing, cosmetic neuro-pharmacology, and consciousness.

This Round Table Discussion with the theme “Neuroethics and the Biology of Consciousness” is organized to explore the religious response to the ethical issues pertaining to neuroscience.

The main objectives of the RTD are:

(i) To map and gather information on the latest developments in neuroscience and their impacts on life;

(ii) To discuss neuroethical issues from the perspective of religion;

(iii) To deliberate on possible ways to synergise religion and neuroscience in order to ensure that neuroscientific developments will be beneficial to mankind.

You are cordially invited to send your reporter and photographer/cameraman to cover the forum.
