APEC 2020 COMMUNICATIONS : MEDIA BRIEFING SESSION

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a forum of 21 member economies established in 1998 to support sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. It is aimed to promote growth, technical and economic cooperation, trade facilitation and liberalization, and investment in the region through regional economic integration. APEC was founded on the principles of voluntarism, consensus-driven and non-binding. This unique characteristics have allowed for the member economies to come together to discuss ways to facilitate trade and promote sustainable development across the region. Malaysia is one of the founding members of APEC. Malaysia last hosted and chaired APEC meetings in 1998.
Malaysia will be hosting APEC in 2020 which begins in December 2019 to November 2020 and the YAB Prime Minister would like for it to be a world class standard event. The year 2020 works as a significant milestone as the 'Bogor Goals' that has been guiding APEC in the last 25 years will reach its maturity and Malaysia is in the best position to influence future.
In this regard, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) would like to invite our media friends to join us as follows:
