The hackathon is organised by the United Nations Youth Envoy along with Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT) and UN Technology innovation Labs (UNTIL) in partnership with SAP and Deloitte. Sunway iLabs, in turn, is a unique, not-for-profit concept where Sunway University, Sunway Group, and Sunway Ventures (Sunway’s Corporate Venture Capital arm) work closely together in a collaborative space to foster entrepreneurship and stimulate market-driven innovations.

This challenge is planned as a social coding event that brings young computer programmers, techies, startups, entrepreneurs and Tech/ Engineering/ IT university students and other interested people together under the auspices of the United Nations to improve upon or build a new software program that addresses the current climate crisis. This event is aimed at identifying a solution that would drive positive change towards the global climate action.

The event will witness teams working in groups across 2 intense days of coding, with assistance from mentors who coach participants towards the development of a curated idea. The winning solution will be incubated in one of the global UN Technology Innovation Labs (UNTIL) to foster the ideas with the right means and expertise. Representative of the winning team will win a trip to New York City, USA at Reboot the Earth award ceremony on September 21, 2019, at the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019. Final solutions will stand a chance to be showcased at Davos in January 2020 during the week of the World Economic Forum.

All in all, this initiative is designed as a collaborative effort globally to build climate resilience using youth led solutions to propel a dramatic solution for climate change.

You are cordially invited to send a reporter and photographer/cameraman to attend and cover the event.
