The main objectives of this Colloquium are:

i. To spell out the hidden aspects of Islamophobia phenomena so as to empower audience to take appropriate action;

ii. To propose a thinking framework to better coordinate efforts; and

iii. To propose a solutions and an alternative narrative.

The ambiguity on what constitutes 'Islamophobia' in global narratives and its appropriate response will inevitably allow external forces to dictate the narratives and consequently influence the masses as well as decision-makers in a skewed manner.

According to recent studies and reports, the growing Islamophobia phenomena is not simply due to ignorance or misunderstanding of the religion of Islam, but more worryingly, it is a deliberate and well-funded programme that benefits certain political interests and agenda. What is the root cause of such deliberate programme? What are the solutions that we have been neglecting and should be paying more attention to at the international, national, societal, and personal levels? What alternative narratives we should concentrate on? What is the role of media? How can scholars and leaders better coordinate their efforts? How can our collective resources be better managed towards achieving a far-reaching solution?

By having an informed discourse on Islamophobia, which will hopefully be well disseminated after this Colloquium, our decision-makers, members of the media, and the masses in general will be able to better concentrate their energies and efforts towards that which are beyond reactionary in nature. Malaysia can play a more visible role in a global discourse which can potentially shape the foreign policies of other nations, while at the same time, position Malaysia as a voice of reason amidst the confusing currents in global discourse.

You are cordially invited to send a reporter and photographer/cameraman to cover the event.
