  “THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN”

Friday 05/08/2011

A Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative by Nikon Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 AUGUST- This Ramadan, Nikon Malaysia is spreading the spirit of giving and sharing by taking a team of 20 underprivileged children from various orphanage homes, aged between 10-18 years old for a photo shoot adventure at the KL Bird Park. This CSR initiative themed “Through the Eyes of Children” is a joint effort between Nikon Malaysia, Persatuan START Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (“StART’), and Purplehouz Fine Arts.

The children were selected from several orphanage homes around Klang Valley and priority is given to those who have shown interest and passion in photography but lack the opportunity to do so. “Nikon is company that is very passionate about photography, we would like to provide an opportunity for these underprivileged children to discover and develop their photography skills enabling them to capture joyful and memorable moments in their lives,” said Masanobu Tsunoda, Managing Director, Nikon Malaysia & Singapore.

The children were taken on an educational expedition today where they participated in a photography workshop at StART premises and at the KL Bird Park. There were 22 children selected to participate in this program and they were each given a Coolpix camera, courtesy of Nikon Malaysia.

For the next 2 weeks, the children will be encouraged to take as many beautiful pictures as possible of their daily lives and their surroundings. During this period, 19 Nikon staff will be taking turns visiting the children to check on their progress and development of their photography skills as well as providing moral support in their quest to capture meaningful pictures.

Nikon Malaysia together with StART will select the best photographs captured by the children to be exhibited at the Purplehouz Fine Arts Gallery. The public can view and buy any of the displayed photographs from 1st to 11th September 2011. All the proceeds from the sale of the photographs will be channeled directly to the individual children via their own Fixed Deposit Account for their future undertaking.

The pictures will be also be showcased at PJ Civic Centre from 12th to 13th September 2011 during a concert by underpriviledged children, organized by StART. Those who did not have the opportunity to view them at PurpleHouz Gallery can have a chance to do so during this period. Those who wish to purchase the pictures can also do so during this time.

Nikon Malaysia welcomes all Malaysians to come forward and spread the spirit of giving this festive season by purchasing photographs displayed at the Purplehouz Fine Arts Gallery. Let’s all come together, and make the future of our youths a brighter one!
