This event is witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Hj Mohd Yassin.
NCIA, the implementing authority for the Northern Corridor Economic Region (Koridor Utara), AMD and Fabtronic, have come together under the Northern Corridor Industrial Technical Enhancement Scheme (NCITES) to help unemployed and under-employed graduates.
These partnerships with industry players are part of NCIA’s human capital development programme to reduce skilled manpower shortages in the country’s high-tech industry and address the need to develop the right local skill-sets.
Graduates will get valuable industry- relevant knowledge, which will enhance employability and learning capacities.
The collaboration with Fabtronic is a definite value-add to these graduates, as the company is an outsourcing agent for AMD, a multinational company in the semi-conductor industry. Under NCITES, NCIA will help Fabtronic to part fund NCITES up to a maximum of RM180,000 to train 10 graduates over a period of not more than 12 months in specialised areas of industrial expertise in the semi-conductor industry, beginning June 11, 2012.
“This programme is seen as a follow-through from the engagements that the NCIA has had with AMD previously; and the NCITES programme is seen as one of the key components that have been structured to support local companies to meet the requirements set out by multinational companies”, said YBhg. Dato’ Redza Rafiq, NCIA Chief Executive.
The NCITES program under RMK9 completed on 30 June 2011 with 77% of the trainees converted to permanent employee.
Managing Director of AMD Manufacturing Penang and Corporate Vice-President, Operations, Mr Neoh Soon Ee, stated: “Koridor Utara is home to Penang, the region’s E&E Hub; and its importance as a regional ICT hub depends on a readily available pool of highly skilled Malaysian knowledge workers, pro-active policies that promote long-term growth - and development for the sector - and a federal government administration that shares our passion for world-class ICT excellence. The NCITES is a clarion call for government and industry to join forces in order to meet Malaysia’s future labour needs for the ICT sector.
“With its strategic partnerships and its systematic approach of providing structured, industry-ready training and knowledge to students, NCITES represents a balanced and pragmatic approach to meeting Malaysia’s requirements to expand the ICT labour pool. We are confident that the establishment of NCITES will result in an enhanced ICT industry environment in Penang that can deliver more efficiently as it will be able to draw upon a large pool of human capital to sustain its operations,” he added.
NCITES is program initiated by NCIA and has been adopted as NTEP (National Talent Enhancement Program) under PEMANDU for all regions. NCIA which is responsible for the implementation of strategic socio-economic development in the Northern Corridor Economic Region, will also help fast track the development of skilled workers through NCITES.
