Wednesday 27/06/2012

26-27 JUNE 2012, CONCOURSE LEVEL, KL SENTRAL

KUALA LUMPUR June 27 (Bernama) -- NCIA is continuing with its agenda of “Growth with Social Equity”. NCIA plays a vital role in ensuring consistent and sustainable development of Koridor Utara. NCIA is the regional enabler, facilitator and business partner, to the private sector, as well as a friend to the community.

NCIA facilitates private sector participation, by creating an enabling eco-system, assisting in coordination efforts with Government agencies, creating linkages/networking with supporting institutions, matchmaking entrepreneur support, enabling purpose-built facilities for businesses; and matching education and human capital requirements.

Total private sector participation and jobs created secured by NCIA from January to June 2012 are as follows:

Anchor Private Sector Participation
Job opportunities : 8,140
Investments : 8.33 billion

Broadening Private Sector Participation
Job opportunities : 1,327
Investments : 0.18 billion

Total Job Opportunities : 9,467
Total Investments : 8.51 billion

Local Private Sector Participation : 21.9%

Foreign Private Sector Participation : 78.1%

The NCIA’s momentum has taken us through the uncertainties of 2011.

NCIA will be completing the First Phase of Koridor Utara (2007-2012), where the key deliverables are to secure anchor investors and build priority infrastructure.

Global Outreach Energy (“GOE”)

NCIA is proud to collaborate with GOE. GOE is involved in the manufacturing, assembly, sale and distribution of Solid State Lighting/Light Emitting Diodes (SSL/LED) products, particularly the T8 and T12 LED Tubes.

GOE, together with its Japanese partner, is making a substantial investment of RM 107.5 Million and creating 2,304 jobs within the next 5 years through the expansion of its production facility, R&D facility and the purchase of equipment for the purpose of increasing its production capacity to meet its current and future orders, specifically from Japan.

As the current operating capacity is insufficient to support the demand that GOE has received for its SSL/LED Products, GOE is desirous to expand the operation and lease a 30,000 sq. ft within Koridor Utara.

NCIA will help to facilitate this endeavour via RM2.0 million to GOE through the acquisition of equipment/machinery for GOE’s new production facility.

National Instruments (“NI”)

National Instruments' world class operations will focus on manufacturing and supply chain, R&D, Global IT and Global Finance. The new 314,000 sq. ft R&D and operations facility will be located on part of the company’s 23 acres of land in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The process of continuous technology upgrading is necessary for the development of globally competitive industries. NI has pledged its support to assist in this process of technology upgrading through the set-up of a prototyping lab. NI has committed to provide equipment, knowledge and technology transfer to ensure success on its part. The establishment of the prototyping lab will foster innovation and target engineers keen to explore product design and commercialization. It will compliment the existing EMC Test facility and the Radio Frequency Technology and wireless systems and computer & embedded systems labs to support high value activities in design and development in Koridor Utara. The lab is currently located at PSDC. NCIA will facilitate the NI prototyping Lab in collaboration with NI and PSDC.

NI's investment over the next 10 years will be at RM2.38 billion and will create 1,500 job opportunities. NCIA will facilitate the NI prototyping lab, in collaboration with NI and PSDC.

NCIA, through its initiatives and industry collaboration, will help to grow the E&E eco-system in Koridor Utara; and provide it with impetus to move up the value chain.
