OPPORTUNITIES TO A GREAT FUTURE IN THE MARITIME INDUSTRY

Tuesday 25/09/2012

KUALA LUMPUR, September 25 (Bernama) --

The Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT) specializes in maritime management programs with campuses in Johor Bahru city and EduCity at Nusajaya, Iskandar Malaysia. NMIT is fully backed by two of the world’s renowned Dutch maritime education institutes in the Netherlands, namely Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz (MIWB) in Terschelling & Maritiem Instituut de Ruyter (MIR) in Vlissingen.

With more than 200 students studying at their current City Campus in Johor Bahru, SPM students nationwide make up the majority of the present intake. With financial study aids provided to Malaysians by FELDA, PTPTN, Bank Rakyat and other government-linked agencies, it is envisaged that an additional 1000+ students will enrol at NMIT by 2013. NMIT EduCity campus, which is currently 90% complete, shall be fully operational early next year and will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Visiting Lecturers come from the industry all across Malaysia plus from the Kingdom of the Netherlands combining more than 200 years of work and teaching experience in the Maritime sector.

There are numerous enquiries from International students and arrangements are currently being made to receive their first batch in January 2013.

NMIT currently offer courses specializing in maritime management over a 2.5-year period with three (3) Diploma programs i.e. Diploma in Maritime Transportation Management, Diploma in Shipping Management and Diploma in Port Management, approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

The highlights are a subsidized optional professionally guided study tour to the Netherlands upon completion of the 2.5-year Diploma program with visits to NMIT two Dutch partners, as well as the Port of Rotterdam, The Hague, Maritime Museum of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and other interesting maritime related organizations. The study tour is to give students the much needed insight and exposure to world class set-ups and an edge over other graduates before venturing out for employment.

NMIT Diploma students can choose to pursue their Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree at NMIT two partners’ institutes in the Netherlands or later at NMIT when they start offering their very own degree courses recognized in Europe and other parts of the world in the near future.

2013 onwards will see NMIT offering more Diploma-level courses covering maritime law, offshore maritime HSSE, offshore maritime operations, maritime entrepreneurship, amongst others.

Since mid-2012, the Australia-based LATUS, a leading consultancy and business solutions provider specialising in Logistics and Supply Chain has teamed up with NMIT. The objective, in collaboration with LATUS, is to provide professionals in the maritime and logistic sector with an even stronger and distinguishing base of knowledge combined with practicality. Some of the short-courses offered include:
