KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Chile in Malaysia and the University of Malaya proudly presents Flute and Piano Duo Recital by internationally renowned artists Viviana Guzmán and Mahani Teave. The event took place yesterday at the Experimental Theatre and was followed by master classes of both performers to young Malaysian musicians.

She has performed as soloist with orchestras in Russia, Chile, Vermont, New York, Wisconsin, California, Texas, and Montana, in such halls as in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, and other prominent stages with such artists as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Plácido Domingo and Glenn Close.

Viviana Guzmán began her musical training at the age of 5 and won her first competition at 7. By the age of 15 she played as a soloist with orchestras, studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal and was featured on a John Denver nationally televised NBC special. Ms. Guzmán studied with James Galway and Albert Tipton and graduated from the Juilliard School. Currently Ms. Guzmán concertizes as a soloist with orchestra, as solo artist and with her quartets “Festival of Four” and “Viviana & Divas Latinas”.

MAHANI TEAVE is the winner of numerous international piano competitions and one of the most celebrated pianists in Chile. A native of legendary Easter Island (UNESCO archaeological site), Ms. Teave is her island’s only classical musician. She debuted as a pianist at the age of 9 when she accompanied renowned Chilean pianist Roberto Bravo on a series of concert tours. From that moment until now Ms. Teave obtained with highest honors a Bachelor degree of Music by Austral University in Valdivia under Professor Ximena Cabello. She also received her Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005, under the tutelage of Professor Sergei Babayan. She won first prize in the 2001 Ciudad de Palmayola International Piano Competition in Mallorca, Spain and the 2004 Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition. Most recently she was a prize winner in the 2006 Corpus Christi International Piano Competition.
