Ladies and gentlemen;

As-salaamu ‘alaikum wrt. wb. and good morning.

First and foremost, on behalf of the organiser, please allow me to express my most humble appreciation and deepest gratitude to our Royal Guest, HRH Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, The Regent of Perak Darul Ridzuan, for granting us his most precious and valuable time, to grace our Event today. We are indeed greatly honoured by his royal presence, here at the Malaysian Brand Forum 2012& Launch of The “Brand Transformer”.

It is with great pleasure that I also take this opportunity to welcome, and thank everyone here today, for your overwhelming support and presence at this auspicious Event. My heartiest congratulations to SME Corp. Malaysia, who for the first time, is organising this Malaysian Brand Forum. The objective of this Event is to promote the National Mark of Malaysian Brand which is a trust mark, as a symbol of excellence, quality and distinction of Malaysian products and services. It is envisaged that the Mark will land credibility and trust of the recipients’ brand and this, in turn will give assurance and confidence to the general public to subscribe to products and services certified with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand.

I believe that the Event organised today is aimed at enhancing the awareness of SMEs and everyone present here about the importance of branding as well as to provide platform for networking and linkages in enhancing potential business opportunity amongst them.

Ladies and gentlemen

Branding has now become an increasingly essential and relevant element in the world of marketing. In our ever-increasingly competitive markets, an effective brand strategy will give you the competitive edge that you need to rise above the rest. Branding gives people a perceived or preconceived idea of what they can expect from your products and services ~ it is actually your promise to your customers, and how they differentiate you from your competitors.

The competitive business environment of today has brought about intense changes through globalisation, advancement in technology and changes in market demands. This is why it has now become even more crucial to develop new plans and programmes, as old methodologies and approaches that have served their time and purpose will need to be reviewed, dismantled and re-engineered. With this, I must say, branding is indeed the “Passport” required to endure turbulence, obstacles, challenges and changes that a business may face.

Recognising the importance of branding, the National Mark of Malaysian Brand, which was developed in collaboration with SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, depicts quality, excellence and distinction of the best that Malaysia has to offer. In order to be certified, companies must undergo and pass very stringent auditing and monitoring processes, which bears testimony that the standard of products and services offered are of high quality and international standard. The Malaysian Brand is the Mark that distinguishes these products and services from all others ~the ultimate symbol of prestige for Malaysian companies and their brands. It represents only the best of products and services from Malaysia.Through this certification and recognition, the recipients are indeed regarded as our representatives and brand ambassadors of Malaysia ~ to stand proud and tall, in the eyes of the world.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to extend this invitation to all our local companies, especially the SMEs, to come forward with your applications and be certified with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand. Since there are many advantages and benefits of being Malaysian Brand-certified, I do hope that many more Malaysian companies would avail themselves to this opportunity.

Since its inception in 2009, a total of 55 companies have been certified with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand. This year, I am pleased to announce that another 24 certified companies will receive their certification. On behalf of the organisers, I would like to take this opportunity to express my most humble and esteemed appreciation to HRH Raja Nazrin Shah, for HRH’s willingness to grace this Event and present the certificates and trophies to the excellent and well-deserved recipients of the Malaysian Brand.

My heartiest congratulations to all the 24 recipients. Once again, I would also like to encourage all entrepreneurs, especially the SMEs out there to apply for the National Mark of Malaysian Brand. Let us all together make it our very own business agenda and feel proud to carry our country’s excellent reputation, flying our Jalur Gemilang up high in the markets beyond our own local shores.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The National Mark of Malaysian Brand is today complemented by another programme, aimed at enhancing the awareness on the importance of branding and packaging. Called the “Brand Transformer”, it will shortly be officially launched today by our Royal Guest of Honour, HRH Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah.

The “Brand Transformer” is aimed at improving the packaging and branding of products produced by SMEs from the rural areas. It comprises a 40 footer wing glider, which has been refurbished and fitted out with an interactive, user friendly and innovative display of packaging samples and materials. The “Brand Transformer”will serve as the ‘vehicle’ to demonstrate the benefits of using appropriate and attractive packaging, technology and materials to enhance packaging to SMEs in the rural areas.

The “Brand Transformer”will be travelling all over Peninsular Malaysia, and it is estimated that 25 sessions will be organised in a year. Since it is quite difficult for our SMEs from the rural areas to come to the city, now it is WE who will go and bring the “Brand Transformer” to them. This is indeed a rakyat-friendly programme executed by the Government via MITI and its Agency, SME Corp. Malaysia. The establishment of the “Brand Transformer” is very much in line with the Government’s SME Masterplan 2012-2020, launched recently by our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. If I may, let me share a little bit on the SME Master plan. Among others this Plan consists ofsix high-impact programmes or 6 HIPs and 32 initiatives that will push SMEs to greater heights through greater productivity, innovation and growth. In this regard,I believe the“Brand Transformer” fulfills 6 HIPs namely‘Inclusive Innovation’ that is to promote transformation of communities including micro enterprises in the rural areas.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Besides this Presentation of the National Mark of Malaysian Brand Trophies and Certificates, we also have organised a Forum. This Forum is focused on exploring new approaches to branding, in order to encourage the development of companies, especially SMEs in Malaysia, as well as sharing of experience with a very prominent speaker today, Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir.Y.A.Bhg. Tunhas a wealth of knowledge on branding, based on his vast experience, and most definitely share with us his take on branding through his interesting topic,”Branding Malaysian”!

Indeed I would not be far from the truth if I were to say that Y.A.Bhg. Tun is a brand unto himself. I am very confident that of all you will be inspired and motivated, as Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir himself is a brand! It is my fervent hope that all of you will gain from Y.A.Bhg. Tun’s worldview which I am certain is applicable information in your respective business and perhaps even personal endeavours.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To conclude, I would like to congratulate SME Corp. Malaysia and SIRIM QAS as the partner of National Mark of Malaysian Brand. On another note, a special mention to Mr. Hood Osman, CEO of Kontena Nasional Berhad for supporting the “Brand Transformer”Project as a co-sponsor. We appreciate this smart partnership will enable SME Corp. to leverage on Kontena Nasional Berhad extensive network of logistics and supply chain. Notwithstanding, we are also grateful to other collaborators for this programme - namely SIRIM Berhad, LUCT, DDEC, MyIPO and FMM -for assisting local companies in building and developing their own brands of products and services, as well as to enhance their product packaging.

Ladies and gentlemen,

On that note, I would like to once again thank HRH Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, The Regent of Perak Darul Ridzuan and all of you present here today, for being here with us at this auspicious occasion. I wish all of you an enjoyable session at this Forum. I would like to express my heartfelt thank to RHB for the Event sponsorship.

With that, I thank you ladies and gentlemen. Wa biLlahit-taufiq wal-hidaayah, was-salaamu 'alaikum WRT. WB.

Ampun Tuanku, sekianlah ucapan patik.
