PERNEC’S HELO ENGLISH BOOT CAMP OFFERS ACCELERATED LEARNING FOR SABAHAN HNC MEMBERS

Monday 22/10/2012

SABAH, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Pernec Corporation Berhad which has attracted over 5,000 members to its heloNET Community CSR programme, has organised its fourth helo English boot camp in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for the benefit of members registered during the recent Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia.

The total technology group held its first helo English boot camp in Ipoh, Perak last year and the subsequent two sessions at the Pernec headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Pernec acquired 1,000 helo English licences for for hNC members last year. At the event, the company gave out 40 licences to the boot camp participants and a further 90 licences will be made available for other Sabahan hNC members, said Pernec PayPoint regional head Ilhami Mohammad adding that during the recent MSAM, hNC managed to sign-up over 2,000 new members.

The boot camp, held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was also attended by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Regional Director Haji Bukhari Yahaya.

According to Ilhami, hNC members selected to join the boot camp session, should take the full advantage of the innovative learning system to maximise the learning benefits of helo English.

“When we decided to set up the heloNET Community, our main priority was to assist students and help them improve their mastery of ICT technology as well as the English language through specific engagement programmes.

“A student may need some time a to master all the technologies equipped in the HeloNET netbooks and there is no better way of overcoming this issue than to offer a proper training and coaching for them,” he added.

In today’s fast changing world, Ilhami said the importance of English in developing one’s career cannot be denied.

“We have often heard about problems faced by those unable to communicate well in English when they enter the employment world with poor level of English and lack of self confidence being often cited as the main reasons for concern by employers.

“Therefore, with helo English, we hope that this scenario can be changed. Even if they do not speak perfect English, they can still get their message across if they are confident enough to communicate,” said Ilhami.

As such, he urge helo English boot camp participants to really learn what the learning programme has to offer and do not procrastinate in commencing one’s learning process.

HeloNET Community: A CSR initiative of Pernec Corporation Berhad

The setting up the HeloNET Community is to assist students, particularly heloNET netbook and 1Malaysia netbook owners, to master all the technologies equipped in the HeloNET netbook. There is no better way of doing this than offering a proper training and coaching for them.

This is especially so for students from rural areas who incidentally are the main target group in the provision of free 1Malaysia netbooks by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

The HeloNET Community with its portal (www.helocommunity.net) and facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/helonetcommunity) will provide a vibrant platform for students to engage in IT. Members will be given exposures and challenges and the opportunity to obtain as much learning experience as possible.

It is hoped that with a structured learning programme, they will be able to broaden their knowledge and skills of ICT throughout their primary and secondary years. Pernec also envisages giving opportunities for community members to participate in numerous IT and English-related competitions.

Within the Community, we can also establish CIG (Common Interest Group) where students who have an interest in a particular topic can get together to exchange information and explore the topic more fully.

As such, due to the various positive benefits of the HeloNET Community, Pernec is confident that members will gain enormous benefits from this initiative and at the same time, complement the Government’s initiative to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural communities.
