MMU WINS INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARD
Thursday 25/10/2012
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Multimedia University (MMU) yesterday received the prestigious Industry Excellence Award from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). The award was given away by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin bin Mohd Yassin at the KLCC Convention Centre.
Specifically, MMU was awarded the Export Excellence Award (Services) Category II. This category is judged by the company’s export performance, market penetration, recognitions received, market operation, services development, promotional tools, utilisation of professional personnel, and contribution to the community and industry.
Receiving the award for MMU was its President, Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Rasat Muhamad. He describes the award as an honour, and an especially meaninful one, at that. “MMU is the first private university in Malaysia, and we came into existence not only to help the government achieve its goals of transforming the economy, but also to show the way forward to other private institutions of higher education,” he said. “To receive this award sixteen years after our establishment shows that we are still highly relevant to the Malaysian higher education sector.”
Prof. Rasat also says that the award is a huge praise for MMU staff, both academic and non-academic. “A university is excellent only in as far as it is able to operate excellently,” he said. “As such, this award is great recognition for the hard work put in by MMU staff, and would surely compel them to work even harder to bring the university to greater heights.”
This is MMU’s third Industry Excellence Award. The first one was the Industry Excellence Award 2004 - Export Excellence Award in Education, while the second one was the Industry Excellence Award 2010 - The Brand Excellence Award (Services Professional).
