THE MALAYSIAN INSURANCE INSTITUTE RECEIVES THE “EDUCATIONAL SERVICE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR” AWARD AT THE 16TH ASIA INSURANCE INDUSTRY AWARDS 2012

Tuesday 30/10/2012

KUALA LUMPUR, October 30 (Bernama) --

Khadijah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) received the “Educational Service Provider of the Year” award on behalf of The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), in appreciation of the Institute’s great efforts in turning itself into an important provider of human capital development solutions to the industry in Asia and for expanding its role to help create greater public awareness about insurance.

Khadijah received the award which was presented at the 16th Asia Insurance Industry Awards 2012 Dinner on 28 October 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.

The award winners were evaluated by a panel of experts and industry leaders made up of representatives from insurance and reinsurance companies and associations from all across Asia.
"We are honoured and delighted to receive this award which in a way is a testimony that MII is able to meet the needs and expectations of the insurance industry not only in Malaysia but also across Asia," said Khadijah Abdullah, CEO of MII.

Khadijah also said that this award is very special to MII as it also reflects the availability and the capabilities of technologies and various infrastructures that MII possesses in promoting training and education and elevating professionalism among the insurance and non-insurance fraternity throughout the Asian region.

MII has transformed from being a typical non-profit insurance training provider to a human capital development solution provider. The year 2011 saw MII received about 150,000 participants in all its training and education programmes, conferences and examinations. It also attracted international participation in its training and education programmes with foreign participants from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Seychelles, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Mongolia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Maldives, and Saudi Arabia, among other countries. The huge number of participants was due to the increased number of offerings and strong testimony of the quality and relevance of them.

The Institute also takes pride by developing and providing various other platforms for knowledge sharing and information through its Knowledge Centre, series of awareness programmes with Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (PIDM) and its prominent role as the Secretariat of the ASEAN Insurance Training and Research Institute (AITRI) in which through AITRI, MII strengthen the insurance cooperation among the ASEAN insurance regulators.

Under its Capacity Building Initiatives, MII has indentified and started important projects that could change the landscape of insurance training and education in Malaysia and the emerging markets. A total of RM44.8 million worth of projects will be implemented under the programme, with most of them still in the pipeline. All these initiatives are being done by MII with the understanding that the success of the industry relies on its talents’ professionalism and competence.

This significant contribution also saw MII gaining recognition as the first winner from Asia to have won the prestigious Award, “Professional Service Provider of the Year” in London in 2007.
