  Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz Launches A Book By INCEIF's Adjunct Professors

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz today launches a book edited by INCEIF Adjunct Professors Prof Datuk Dr Rifaat Ahmed Abdel Karim and Prof Simon Archer. The book is the second edition of 'Islamic Finance The New Regulatory Challenge'.

INCEIF President & CEO Mr Daud Vicary Abdullah is one of contributing authors of the book and wrote a chapter on 'Transparency and Market Discipline: Post-Basel Pillar 3'. Other contributing authors include International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance Executive Director Dr Mohamad Akram Laldin and Securities Commission Deputy Chief Executive Dato Dr Nik Ramlah Mahmood.

Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti wrote in the book's foreword that this second edition of the book addresses the implications of the recent global financial crisis on the regulation of Islamic financial services. The book, which dealt with the relevant regulatory issues in a timely manner, would be much welcomed by both practitioners and academics.

The book launch was attended by 100 people including several industry players and INCEIF faculty members and students.

About the Editors

Prof Datuk Dr Rifaat Ahmed Abdel Karim, who is currently the CEO of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation, is one of the world’s foremost authority in the Islamic financial services industry (IFSI) both at the professional and academic levels. He has played a pioneering role in the development of Islamic finance, while his leadership in drafting accounting, auditing, governance, Shariah and regulatory standards has been instrumental in establishing the position of the IFSI in the mainstream of global banking and finance.

In addition to the international recognition of his academic publications, which are mainly in tier one international journals, in the field of Islamic finance, Professor Datuk Dr Rifaat also earned international respect for the two organisations he has played an instrumental role in creating and served as (their inaugural) Secretary General — the Accounting & Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB).

Prof Simon Archer is Visiting Professor at the ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK, with particular responsibility for Islamic finance. After studies in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, he qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen in London and then moved to Price Waterhouse in Paris, where he became Partner in Charge of Management Consultancy Services. Since beginning an academic career, Prof Archer has undertaken numerous consultancy assignments including acting as consultant to AAOIFI and IFSB.
