Sarawak Hidro and SMK Bakun representatives during the school bags hand over ceremony

BAKUN, Belaga, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Hidro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Hidro) brought cheer to more than 300 form one students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bakun when they were presented with school bags in a handing-over ceremony, held in conjunction with the closing of the school’s orientation week.
 
The bags were handed over by Ir Zulkifle Osman, Managing Director of Sarawak Hidro to Encik Roger Peter, the Principal of SMK Bakun, as part of Sarawak Hidro’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for the local and resettled communities in Bakun area.
 
Joining in the programme were Encik Anuar Abu Bakar, General Manager of Sarawak Hidro (Operation and Maintenance), Encik Faisal Shahbudin, General Manager of Sarawak Hidro (Corporate Services), school teachers, form one students, representatives from parents-teachers association (PIBG) and members of the media.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Ir Zulkifle Osman highlighted, “Sarawak Hidro is not only committed towards the growth of the company, but also towards contributing back to the society in which we operate, as CSR remains an integral part of our activities. This “Back to School” programme is significant to us as it brings us together and helps us to build a stronger bond with the local people,  especially their younger generation”.
 
Encik Roger Peter, Principal of SMK Bakun also said, “ We truly appreciate Sarawak Hidro’s effort in this and in other community initiatives organised by the company. I really hope that this contribution will bring joy to the students and motivate them to study and to perform well academically”.
 
During the ceremony, a mock cheque of RM29, 998.00 was also presented to the school for the purchase of stackable tables to furnish some classrooms in the school, which may also be used for examination purposes. These two contributions reflect Sarawak Hidro’s continued and unwavering support towards the continuous growth of the local people, including their younger generation.
