UDPS, FIRST MALAYSIAN OIL AND GAS COMPANY TO OBTAIN MS 1900:2014 SHARIAH-BASED QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Thursday 10/03/2016

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- Upstream Downstream Process & Services Sdn Bhd (UDPS), was recognised as the “First Malaysian Oil and Gas Company to obtain MS 1900:2014 Shariah-based Quality Management System” by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR). The certificate presentation ceremony between MBR and UDPS was held in MIDA HQ today.

UDPS was represented by its Chief Executive Officer / Managing Director (CEO/ MD), Encik Ahmad Komarolaili Abu, whilst MBR was represented by its Director of Operation, Mr. Christopher HW Wong. The certificate presentation was witnessed by YBhg. Datuk N Rajendran, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MIDA and Puan Khalidah Mustafa, Managing Director of SIRIM QAS International.

“We are very honoured with the certification issued by SIRIM and subsequent recognition from MBR to UDPS. Being a service company, this certification is a key component to having continued success and good corporate governance” said Encik Ahmad Komarolaili.

The MS 1900:2014 (Shariah compliance Quality Management System) is based on the well-known ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System). It regulates management systems and procedures according to the Shariah and Islamic perspectives, an obligation to the holistic management system, in line with Malaysia being a developed Islamic country.

As an operation and maintenance services provider, UDPS has been highly active in Malaysia’s oil and gas industry through its various projects in Kemaman, Tok Bali and Pengerang. The company’s project in Kemaman will be undertaken in 2 phases. Phase 1 “Integrated Mercury Facilities” will consist of Mercury Mapping & Baseline Survey,   Mercury Training & Consultation, Mercury Decontamination Process, Mercury Surveillance and Mercury-in-Water on-site Treatment and Mercury Laboratory. While, Phase 2 will involve the development of the Mercury Recovery Facility. The construction will commence by end of 2016 and the completion is expected to be in 2018.

Besides Kemaman, UDPS is also providing waste management services, particularly on vessel cleaning, and training in Tok Bali with total investment worth RM10 million. The company has also acquired 7 hectares of land in Pengerang. With such acquisition, the company is poised to benefit from Pengerang’s robust business development. UDPS is continuously up-scaling its capabilities to cater to the increasing demands of its clients.

“UDPS has been targeting very high potential O&G development areas. By providing their services to big oil and gas giants like PETRONAS, Talisman, ExxonMobil and Sapura Kencana, the company has managed to create its own identity and soon will contribute towards making Malaysia a strong O&G hub in the region. MIDA is indeed encouraged and proud of the progress of UDPS, and we believe that its involvement in the O&G supporting industries value chain will attract more multinational companies to operate in Malaysia,” said Datuk N Rajendran in his welcome remarks during the event.

“We have received overwhelming support from MIDA, TERAJU, other Government agencies, local authorities and partners that have allowed UDPS to grow in tandem with the development of our Integrated Mercury facilities. Through this project, we hope to positively impact local businesses, create employment opportunities, attract oil and gas expertise to build local competencies and contribute to the local community through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes’’ added Encik Ahmad Komarolaili.
