KUALA TERENGGANU,March 17 (Bernama) -- At its annual appreciation dinner last night with Terengganu state government officials, community leaders and NGOs, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (EMEPMI) together with the Terengganu State Education Department recognized 33 primary and secondary school teachers in Terengganu. The teachers were honoured for demonstrating outstanding achievements and excellence in improving students' academic performance, co-curriculum activities and character building efforts in school. Three of the teachers were recognised under the ETP award category for proactively enhancing the teaching and learning of English outside the classroom by optimizing learning resources at English Language Theme Parks funded by ExxonMobil in Terengganu. Each teacher received a cash award, a plaque and certificate from Terengganu State Assembly Speaker Dato’ Haji Mohd Zubir Embong representing Menteri Besar of Terengganu Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, and Ernest Miller, Financial Director, ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia. “We continue to nurture and build globally competitive talent through quality education, which is critical not just for the development of the state, but to also fuel the nation with capable and skilled human resources. Besides emphasizing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education which are the basis for innovation and development, we continue to support and strengthen English language development as part of efforts to ensure our students are able to communicate and compete globally, In doing so, we recognize our high-potential and committed faculty of educators, who are instrumental in shaping the future beacons of our nation,” said Miller.
“These award-winning teachers are full of exemplary acumen, with their flair in teaching that is both unique and student-centric. For instance, one teacher advocates experiential methodology, whereas another teacher promotes a humorous approach to teaching music. Their achievements speak for themselves, when the students, under their active mentorship, excel in every aspect of learning and growth,” he commented. ExxonMobil contributed RM50,400 to the Terengganu Education Department for the Excellent Teacher Awards programme. The awards were established in 2007. Successful candidates were nominated by their respective schools and principals, and chosen by the district education offices and the state education department. Beginning 2015, a special English Language Theme Park category was introduced for teachers who facilitated interactive activities and optimized learning resources at various ExxonMobil-supported English Language Theme Parks in Terengganu.
