GLOBAL SWITCH AND BRUCE SHAW COLLABORATE ON FINAL STAGES OF SYDNEY EAST DATA CENTRE

Friday 18/03/2016

SYDNEY, March 18 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Global Switch, the leading owner and operator of large scale cloud and carrier neutral data centre space in Europe and Asia-Pacific, and Bruce Shaw, a multinational construction consultancy firm, today announced that they will collaborate for the second time on the construction of the last two stages of its Sydney East data centre. Bruce Shaw provided full cost management services on stage one of Sydney East which received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED) gold rating, and they will continue to do so on the final stages of this project. The new data centre is located on Global Switch’s Sydney campus (1.5km from the centre of the CBD) and will ultimately span 73,000 m2, with 83 MVA of utility power capacity.

The development of Global Switch Sydney East addresses the demand from a large number of leading multi-national companies for highly resilient and secure space for housing mission critical IT equipment, as well as the direct access to a network dense and low latency carrier and cloud neutral ecosystem. The Global Switch Sydney campus serves as a core node not just for Sydney and Australia but, in terms of connectivity and services, a key hub for the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.

Bruce Shaw is widely regarded as having deep domain knowledge and expertise in data centres both globally and locally which enables them to bring a comprehensive understanding to this project, not just of how the data centre works and is put together, but also through benchmarking of data centre costs across continents, best fit procurement and contracting strategies in these regions, detailed local market knowledge around AEs, CMs, GCs and risk factors and mitigation planning experience.

Damon Reid, Global Switch's Managing Director in Sydney said "We chose to extend our relationship with Bruce Shaw from Stage 1 into Stages 2 and 3 because their team consistently meets and exceeds our expectations in terms of quality of work, accuracy, flexibility and timeliness in delivery. They adapt quickly to changes in project scope if required and are trusted independent representatives for Global Switch with a unique ability to communicate well and coordinate their efforts across multiple project disciplines. They also have excellent knowledge which they can seamlessly apply to realise cost savings and efficiencies on our projects.“

“Bruce Shaw is currently working on 115 data centre projects in various stages of development across four continents. This experience gives us unprecedented insight into the challenges owner/occupiers, colocation providers, telecommunication providers and end-users face with delivering their critical infrastructure on time and within budget and makes us one of the leading experts in this field. We are honoured to be able to include Global Switch as a feted client in our data centre business unit and to offer them specialist teams on the ground in Sydney with a unique blend of data centre experience and local knowledge.” said John Carleton, Director Australia and New Zealand, Bruce Shaw.

Stage 2 of this construction project has commenced and will be delivered in Q2, 2017.
