OIL PALM PROMOTION MISSION TO FRANCE AND BELGIUM 24 - 28 APRIL 2016

PUTRAJAYA, April 22 (Bernama) -- YB Ar. Wan Khai-ril Anuar bin Wan Ahmad, Chairman, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will lead the Oil Palm Promotion Mission to France and Belgium from 24 to 28 April 2016. The delegation includes Secretary General of Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Senior Officials and selected Members of Parliament.
The delegates to France and Belgium will: -engage key stakeholders, including members of Parliament and Government Officials in France on the proposed import tax on palm oil under consideration by the French Senate; -hold meetings with the European Commission and members of the European Parliament on Malaysian experience in sustainable palm oil production; and -explore market opportunities for export of palm oil and other commodity based products to France and Belgium. Malaysia and France enjoyed healthy trade and economic relation. In 2015, the total trade with France totaled at RM14.3 billion. Major exports to France includes electrical and electronic products (60.1%), petroleum products (5.9%) and rubber products (5.7%). Whilst, total trade with Belgium in 2015 was recorded at RM6.3 billion with electrical and electronic products (26.5%) and optical & scientific equipment (16.1%) being Malaysia’s biggest exports to Belgium.
In 2015, exports of commodity products to the European Union (EU) was valued at RM1.76 billion. Palm oil products accounted for RM9.7 billion (55% of total commodity exports), rubber products at RM5.4 billion (30.4%), timber and timber products at RM2.1 billion (11.9%), cocoa products at RM380 million (2.2%) and pepper products at RM33.8 million (0.2%).
