KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB or the Bank) received an award from the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia Pacific (ADFIAP) for its outstanding work in environmental development and infrastructure development at a ceremony held in Apia, Samoa on Monday, 2nd May 2016.
The ADFIAP awards, established since 1997, is recognised for honouring individuals and institutions who have contributed significantly to the development of their respective countries.
ADFIAP named BPMB as the winner for ADFIAP Outstanding Development Project 2016 for two projects, namely (i) Perdana Putra High Performance Green Building and (ii) Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) in Education Sector.
The Perdana Putra Project in Putrajaya is a large-scale upgrading of the Prime Minister’s Department Complex into a certified green building. The project started in October 2011 and completed in May 2014. It was accorded a platinum rating in the Green Building Index (GBI), Malaysia’s industry recognised green rating tool for buildings to promote sustainability in the urban environment. Perdana Putra is now a benchmark to encourage more businesses in Malaysia to achieve greater heights in energy efficiency. The successful retrofitting project is also considered the largest retrofitting project for government buildings in Asia.
BPMB was involved in financing the construction of new campuses for Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), under PFI. PFI projects initiated by the Government allows private sector participation in the public higher education sector particularly in the provision of long term asset-based services under the 9
th Malaysian Plan in 2006. Other than UiTM, BPMB has also participated in the financing of PFI projects for other public universities/colleges. BPMB has provided financing of more than RM2.3 billion in PFI projects related to the education sector.
