Orphanages treated to a night of fun and prosperity at a special “buka puasa” event

CYBERJAYA, June 13 (Bernama) --  The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) organized their annual “buka puasa” charity event at the Raja Haji Fi Sabilillah. About 200 children and their guardians from 6 organizations attended the event along with MDEC staff, honoured guests from MSC companies and local authorities. It was truly an event that showcased the ‘muhibbah’ spirit that Malaysia is famously known for.

The event was also Tan Sri Sidek Hassan’s first public appearance as MDEC Chairman since his appointment in April. He was quoted saying, “This is a special night for all of us at MDEC as we celebrate the arrival of Ramadan with the orphans, friends and families. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to reconnect with our communities and brighten the children’s evening.”

Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer at MDEC said, “Tonight is about refocusing our attention from normal daily activities and instead reflecting on and appreciating more fully our many blessings -- especially you, the people who make up our MSC Malaysia community. Thank you all for your friendship and your support of MDEC. The ties and friendships we share are truly a treasure.”

Much to the delight of the orphans, Animonsta Studios Sdn Bhd and Digital Durian brought along their famous mascots Boboiboy and Didi & Friends to play and interact with them. To further add to their joy, MDEC co-sponsored goodie bags which includes Boboiboy merchandise courtesy of Animonsta Sdn. Bhd.
The orphanages in attendance were Pusat Jagaan Baitus Sakinah, Rumah Telaga Kasih Nur Muhammad, Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia, Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Permata Hatiku Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (Permata Hatiku), Madrasah Tahfiz Raudhatul Baiduri and Persatuan Kebajikan Thirumular Malaysia.

About Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), previously known as Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), was incorporated in 1996 to strategically advise the Malaysian government on legislation, policies and standards for ICT and multimedia operations as well as to oversee the

development of the Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor (now MSC Malaysia), the platform to nurture the growth of Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the IT industry whilst attracting participation from global ICT companies to invest in and develop cutting edge digital and creative solutions in Malaysia.

In 2011, MDEC’s mandate was broadened by the Prime Minister to include driving Malaysia’s transition towards a developed digital economy by 2020 through Digital Malaysia. In 2012, Digital Malaysia was officially unveiled as the nation’s transformational programme to achieve this aim. Digital Malaysia is the national agenda towards a sustainable digital economy built upon a vibrant domestic ICT industry, transformative use of digital solutions by government, businesses and citizens, as well as a robust enabling ecosystem.

Today, both MSC Malaysia and Digital Malaysia run concurrently to spur Malaysia’s ICT industry development and digital transformation, under the purview of MDEC.
