FEDERATION OF MALAYSIAN MANUFACTURERS (FMM) SUPPORTS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF B7 PROGRAMME IN INDUSTRIAL SECTOR

Friday 23/09/2016

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC), YB Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong held a consultation meeting with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) regarding the implementation of the B7 Programme in industrial sector.

Despite few concerns raised during the meeting, FMM had acknowledged that the implementation of B7 Programme (blending of 7% palm methyl ester with 93% petroleum diesel) in the industrial sector can contribute towards the national commitment in reducing the carbon foot print and pollution to environment.

The implementation mandate is scheduled to kick start in the fourth quarter of 2016. Based on the successful implementation of B7 in the transport sector, FMM expressed also confidence that the concern raised on B7 in industrial sector can be addressed accordingly by MPIC.

YB Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong reiterated that the introduction of B7 Programme in the industrial sector is an expansion to the current B7 Programme in the transport sector which has been implemented successfully since December 2014.

The implementation of biodiesel programme in transport and industry sectors is expected contribute towards a saving of approximately 2.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent. This saving is equivalent to annual CO2 emission from 500,000 cars per year on the road.

The implementation B7 Programme for industrial sector would further demonstrate the Government's efforts toward reducing dependence on petroleum diesel as well as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the use of environmentally friendly energy sources. In addition, the implementation of B7 Programme in industrial sector is expected to utilise 207,000 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) annually.

The implementation of B7 will also increase domestic consumption of CPO and thus contribute to the reduction of stock and price stabilization of CPO.
