Malaysia Halal Carnival 2016 target of 10,000 visitors

GOPENG, Perak, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC)’s effort in educating the public about the importance of Halal industry continues as it hosted the  Halal Malaysia Carnival National Level, held at the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC), Gopeng from 21 to 23 October 2016.

Halal Malaysia Carnival 2016 featuring a variety of activities was officially opened by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah Ibni Muizzuddin Sultan Azlan Shah Al-Maghfur on October 21, 2016.

Also participating in the ceremony were YB Datuk Hj. Ahmad Hj. Maslan, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YABhg. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Prime Minister, Chairman of HDC Datuk Seri Hj. Rizuan Abd Hamid and Chief Executive Officer of HDC, Hon. Dato 'Seri Jamil Bidin.

The main objective of the Halal Malaysian Carnival 2016 is to create business opportunities for Halal certified companies by providing platform for entrepreneurial activities in the Northern Corridor such as Perak, Kedah, Perlis and Penang. Through the carnival too, HDC hopes that this effort will increase domestic investments in Malaysia, especially in Halal Parks around the Northern Zone, by involving more local entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs in the Halal industry while improving the number of human capital.

"Halal received attention from around the world at this point because of its huge market and high demand. Thus, we can see the development in which more and more entrepreneurs to venture into business in the Halal industry. However, the involvement of local companies is still small and the level of public awareness is still low. "Said Dato' Seri Jamil Bidin, Chief Executive Officer of HDC.

"At the same time, we also find many non-Muslim countries such as Japan, Korea, China, Australia and Brazil are eagerly involved in this industry and these countries see Malaysia as the leader of the global Halal industry," added Jamil.

This entrepreneurial carnival offers not only economic segment and awareness but also functions of stakeholders in the Halal industry. The program begins with a seminar on Halal Awareness and information covering such topics such as the certification process, capacity development programs organized by government agencies. The seminar was held on October 21, 2016 (Friday).

Multinationals and government-linked companies will also share their experiences and knowledge with the participants in handling Halal-based businesses.

In addition, a total of more than 200 entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to display and sell various products and services of local halal starting from 21 to 23 October 2016. A total of 10,000 visitors from around the state are expected to attend the three-day carnival.

In line with the Government's policy to focus on digital economy businesses, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Halal Malaysia Carnival’s strategic partner, also organized a value-added program namely  #YouCanDuit.  #YOUCANDUIT is a campaign to raise additional income of Malaysians through digital initiatives namely eRezeki and entrepreneurs. In addition, MDEC also shares its knowledge through HDC’s seminar program.

Perak Agro Marketing Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Group Development Corporation Perak Agriculture (PPPNP) under the Pegro brand, also takes part and serves as a 'marketing arm' to promote and market products based on agricultural activities, especially running in the state Ridzuan.

In 2015, the number of Halal Malaysia certified companies in Perak amounted to 654 which is equivalent to 10% of the total of 6548 companies nationwide. Perak ranks the third highest state after Selangor and Johor.

Halal global market estimated to be worth as much as USD 2.3 trillion of opportunities for manufacturers of products and services as demand for both increased with the growing global population and also the acceptance of non-Muslims to this industry.
