KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- A Memorandum of Arrangement (MoA) was duly signed on 29 July 2010 between the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (NAAHE), Indonesia with a term of three years. Both agencies had renewed the MoA on 19 August 2013 for an additional three years.

Since the MoA expired on 28 July 2016, both agencies agreed to extend and continue the aforementioned for an additional term of five years, commencing on 29 July 2016 and expiring on 28 July 2021.

The MoA was signed by Datuk Prof Dr Rujhan Mustafa, the Chief Executive Officer of MQA and Prof. T Basaruddin, Director of the Executive Board of NAAHE. The Honorable Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh witnessed the signing.

The MoA aims at fostering the existing relationship between the two agencies, further strengthening the partnership and promoting technical cooperation that will be of mutual benefit through, amongst others, exchange of information and mutual understanding. This is to enable the staff from the two agencies to support and learn from each other, effectively perform its regulatory and quality assurance responsibilities and enhance the understanding of each other’s approach in ensuring quality in higher education.

In terms of capacity building, the MoA also provides developmental opportunities for staff of both agencies to participate in short-term internship programme at each other’s offices, participate as observers in institutional audits and be involved in training activities to strengthen the international dimension of institutional audits and collaborate in future quality assurance and accreditation activities.

With the partnership, it is also hope that it may facilitate and enhance the mobility of students and people between both countries.

The above objectives and partnership initiatives are expected to contribute in positioning MQA as a global authority on quality assurance of higher education that has an internationally recognised system of quality assurance as outlined in its vision and mission.
