Three-day, three-city cashless challenge proves ease of purchases for petrol, hotel, food and more, with new debit card
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- “Now anyone can go cashless!” Two radio deejays lived this concept in the “Go Cashless” Challenge (Cabaran Tanpa Tunai) during a three-day trip covering Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang by simply using the CIMB PETRONAS Debit Mastercard as their challenge “partner”.
The aim of the three-day challenge from 23 to 25 January was to prove that one can go “cashless” or in other words, #Debitjer, by simply using the CIMB PETRONAS Debit Mastercard. At the start of the challenge in KL, Jaa and Nadia from local popular radio station ERA fm were given the CIMB PETRONAS Debit Mastercard (linked to their CIMB PETRONAS Savers Account). The cashless challenge included buying bus tickets, booking overnight stays in Johor Bahru and Penang, renting a car, buying petrol for their road trip, paying for tickets at tourist attractions and getting food at various eateries in the three cities.
Throughout the challenge, Jaa and Nadia kept their fans and the public updated on their trip via Facebook and Instagram, which garnered a total of 11 million impressions throughout their three-day journey. Their joint experience highlighted the benefits, security and ease of going cashless.
The challenge was completed at Menara CIMB in Kuala Lumpur on 25 January where they were greeted by Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz, Group Chief Executive, CIMB Group and Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad.
During the completion of the challenge, Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul said, “The CIMB PETRONAS Debit MasterCard is our first debit card with a major Malaysian petrol company that offers cash rebate for petrol spend, in addition to the basic features on all CIMB debit cards like security chip and the 3D-secure authentication process for online purchases; acceptance at over 38 million MasterCard retail outlets and over 1 million ATMs worldwide; and great deals at over 4,000 merchant outlets in Malaysia and overseas.”
“The “Go Cashless” Challenge proves that CIMB customers do not need to carry much cash with them for everyday expenses, even for trips spanning many days. This is yet another step by CIMB to support Bank Negara Malaysia’s effort to encourage the use of electronic payments and reduce the use of cash in Malaysia’s financial ecosystem,” continued Tengku Zafrul.
Mohd Ibrahimnuddin said, “Speed and ease of transaction make fuelling a breeze at PETRONAS Stations when you pay with the CIMB PETRONAS Debit MasterCard. You can also use it to pay for your purchases at Kedai Mesra and now enjoy up to 2% rebate for all transactions. Cardholders are encouraged to sign up for a Kad Mesra today to get Mesra points and be rewarded with exclusive promotions, events and merchandise.”
“I’m thrilled and excited that with the CIMB PETRONAS Debit MasterCard, I just need to #Debitjer without having to carry too much cash around and if I need to go anywhere, I feel more secure using the card,” Jaa from ERA fm said.
Meanwhile, Nadia said, “All this while, I had never gone anywhere without bringing cash. What’s good is that the “Go Cashless” Challenge with the CIMB PETRONAS Debit MasterCard has definitely given me better visibility on my spending. The card also rewards me with cash rebates and many other great deals and freebies!”
The CIMB PETRONAS Debit Mastercard gives up to 2% cash rebate for purchases of PETRONAS fuel and items from Mesra stores nationwide. Cardmembers can also enjoy a one-year fund transfer fee rebate via CIMB Clicks. The debit card is equipped with a contactless feature that enables cardmembers to conveniently tap or wave the card at contactless readers or terminals for purchases below RM250. For transactions above RM250, cardmembers must provide their signature or 6-digit PIN (compulsory after 1 July 2017), making these transactions safer and more secure.
