ZERO PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS SOCSO'S JOB PLACEMENT & EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT SERVICES AS AN INNOVATIVE POLICY 2017 ON EMPLOYMENT

Friday 24/02/2017

VIENNA,Feb 24 (Bernama) -- Social Security Organisation (SOCSO)’s Job Placement & Employment Support Services have been awarded with Innovative Policy 2017 on Employment, Work and Vocational Education and Training.

Martin Essl, Founder of the Zero Project and Jakob von Uexkull, Partner of the Zero Project and Founder of the World Future Council, presented the award to SOCSO at the United Nations Office in Vienna, on the evening of February 23.

Malaysia’s Job Placement & Employment Support Services, which are a component of the national Return to Work Programme, were featured at the Zero Project Conference 2017.

This year’s Conference, which runs from 22 to 24 February, focuses on disability-inclusive Employment, Work, and Vocational Education and Training. The Zero Project Conference, which is attended by over 500 experts from more than 70 countries, discusses innovative solutions – Innovative Practices and Policies – that support employment, decent work and meaningful vocational education and training of persons with disabilities.

The Award for Malaysia’s Job Placement & Employment Support Services is based on a selection process organised by the Zero Project. More than 1,000 experts with and without disabilities from all over the world were involved in the selection process, which is based on the criteria of innovation, impact and scalability. A total of 56 Innovative Practices and 11 Innovative Policies were selected this year.

At the Zero Project Conference, the Award was handed over to Dato’ Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, Chief Executive Officer of SOCSO, along with En Roshaimi Mat Rosely, Head of Return to Work Programme and Ms. Gayathri Vadivel, Head of Job Placement & Employment Support, both from SOCSO.

Malaysia’s Job Placement & Employment Support Services are also included in the Zero Project Report 2017, which can be downloaded at www.zeroproject.org

The Zero Project
The Zero Project promotes the rights of persons with disabilities globally, according to the principles and Articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). It is a platform where the most innovative and effective solutions overcoming the barriers that persons with disabilities face, are being shared. Every year, the Zero Project concentrates on a theme: on inclusive education and ICTs (2016), on independent living and political participation (2015), on accessibility (2014) and on employment (2013). In 2017, the project will concentrate on employment, vocational training and education. As of today, more than 3,000 experts around the world have contributed to the initiative. The Zero Project was initiated by the Essl Foundation in 2010 and has been running in partnership with the World Future Council since 2011 and with the European Foundation Centre since 2013.
