MALINDO AIR IS FIRST TO FLY BOEING 737 MAX AIRCRAFT

Tuesday 21/03/2017

LANGKAWI, March 21 (Bernama) -- Malindo Air, CAPA 2016 Asia Pacific Regional Airline of the Year, announced today, at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’17) that Malindo Air will be the first customer to operate the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in commercial service.

“Malindo Air is very honoured and proud to be the world’s first carrier to fly passengers on this state-of-the-art innovation,” said CEO of Malindo Air, Chandran Rama Muthy.  “This is another huge milestone for us. The efforts to keep our products fresh are important and we will continue to innovate to give our customers the best flying experience. The specialty of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft is that it offers lower operating costs with better fuel efficiency due to its new engines and aerodynamic improvements, including the advanced technology winglets. This means the new technology aircraft will burn less fuel and lower our operational costs, allowing us to offer competitive fares.”

Malindo Air currently operates a jet fleet of all Boeing Next-Generation 737s and will take delivery of up to four Boeing 737 MAXs this year.

Chandran added, “This new aircraft, which allows us to go to further destinations at a distance of 7 hours 30 mins, will certainly help attract tourists to our country. As tourism is a key revenue generator for the country, this new aircraft will play a key role in providing lower fares on air travel.”

The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. The new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20 percent lower fuel use than the first Next-Generation 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class – 8 percent per seat less than its nearest competitor.
