PUTRAJAYA, May 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia condemns the launch of a medium-range ballistic missile by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 14 May 2017. Malaysia is gravely concerned at such action by the DPRK which constituted a flagrant violation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Malaysia urges the DPRK to cease from conducting further nuclear and missile tests and comply fully with its international obligations under the relevant UNSC resolutions.
The most recent ballistic missile launch by the DPRK only serves to further increase the already tense situation in the region and hinders the prospects for lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. It further undermines global efforts in the maintenance of international peace and security.
Malaysia therefore calls upon the DPRK to recommit itself to peaceful dialogue and negotiations, with a view to achieving regional and global peace and security.
