  WORKING VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA TO THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA 20 - 22 MAY 2017

PUTRAJAYA, May 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak will undertake a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 20 to 22 May 2017 on the invitation of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to participate in the “Arab, Islamic & US Summit” on 21 May 2017. The Summit is convened at the initiative of Saudi Arabia and coincides with the State Visit of the President of United States, President Donald Trump to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
 
The Minister of Culture and Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and special envoy to His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, His Excellency Dr. Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad extended the invitation during his visit and courtesy call on the Prime Minister in Putrajaya on 11 May 2017.
 
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Minister of Defence who is also the Minister with Special Functions in the Prime Minister's Department, Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Major General Dato’ Seri Jamil Khir Bin Baharom, together with senior government officials.
 
In addition to attending the Summit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to attend the Inauguration of the Global Centre for Combatting Extremist Ideology at Mu’tamarat, Nasiriyah in Riyadh. Malaysia is expected to play a major role in the development of the centre. 

This is a recognition not only by Saudi Arabia but the wider world of the active and important role that Malaysia plays in the global effort to combat terrorism.
 
On the final day of the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to have an audience with His Majesty King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Naif Al-Saud and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Al-Saud. These meetings will provide the opportunity for both sides to discuss bilateral and regional issues of common interest.
 
Malaysia and Saudi Arabia are working closely to promote peace, stability and security in the Islamic world and beyond. It is expected that the Prime Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia will enhance these efforts as well as to further strengthen bilateral relations, which are already at an all-time high.
