KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS yesterday launched its National Day and Malaysia Day campaign to celebrate the country’s progress since gaining independence -- an achievement made possible through unity and perseverance of all Malaysians.

Components of the campaign include a special exhibition at GALERI PETRONAS entitled JULANG, and a National Day and Malaysia Day web film titled Piala Taman Thomas.

JULANG showcases PETRONAS’ 43-year journey in developing and adding value to Malaysia’s oil and gas resources, and its role in contributing towards Malaysia’ progress and improved wellbeing of Malaysians.

The exhibition was launched by PETRONAS Chairman Tan Sri Sidek Hassan at the PETRONAS Twin Towers.

“The 60th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence is a significant milestone in our nation’s history. It is a good occasion for us to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and a people, and of a future that we must now collectively continue to chart for ourselves.”

Sidek said the words of the late Father of Independence Tunku Abdul Rahman that ‘we are masters of our destiny, and the welfare of this beloved land is our own responsibility’, still rang as true today as when they were first uttered six decades ago.

“In the case of PETRONAS, as the custodian of the nation’s hydrocarbon resources, the translation of this vision has been the cornerstone of all that we have done over the last 43 years, with remarkable outcome. This is what the exhibition JULANG has so eloquently captured,” he elaborated.

The exhibition takes visitors on a visual tour of PETRONAS’ journey from its early days as oil and gas regulator, its expansion into upstream and downstream business value chain in Malaysia and abroad, and its contribution towards building the nation and the advancement of society.

PETRONAS’ Senior General Manager Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah (Liza) Abdul Rahman in her welcoming address said: “The Malay word ‘julang’ conjures images of holding in high esteem a prized, cherished possession. Our nation’s independence, hard fought for and won -- and the liberty, and social and economic mobility that come with it -- is certainly invaluable.

“By the same token, for PETRONAS, the responsibility of being the custodian of the nation’s oil and gas resources is something that we hold in high regard, and take very seriously,” she said.

JULANG is open for public viewing at GALERI PETRONAS on Level 3, Suria KLCC from 15 August until 17 September 2017.

At the same event, PETRONAS also previewed its latest National and Malaysia Day web film titled ‘Piala Taman Thomas’. The four-minute film featuring badminton legends Rashid Sidek and Foo Kok Keong promotes the essence and values of teamwork and perseverance for a better Malaysia.

The web film airs on PETRONAS’ official brand channel at www.petronasofficial.com starting from yesterday and a 60-second television commercial version will also be aired till 17 September 2017.
