SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- This September 8th, leading experts will be at the Setia City Convention Centre to share and discuss about the benefits, challenges, pragmatism and potential of building Zero Waste and Zero Plastic cities, as part of the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017.
The Green City Forum will feature speakers from the UN and the region, such as Indonesia, and the Philippines. Local waste management experts and environmental entrepreneurs will also share their thoughts on how to make businesses green, yet still profitable.
Officiated by Y.B Elizabeth Wong, Selangor Executive Council Member for Tourism, Consumer Affairs, Green Tech and Environment, the forum will see a Keynote Speech delivered by Mr. Choudhury Rudra Charan Mohanty, the Environment Programme Coordinator of the United Nations Centre for Regional Development, who will be tackling the topic titled “Towards Resource Efficient & Zero Waste Societies”.
This keynote explores the pragmatism, challenges and potential of realising efficient and zero waste societies in Malaysia, especially taking into account the nuances of the socio-economic and consumerism climate here. Mr. Mohanty currently leads global networking for EST, 3R, and IPLA projects as an Environment Programme Coordinator/Expert with the United Nations Centre for Regional Development.
The fireside chat session, titled ‘Green Profit, Green Opportunities’, will explore the imminent threats economies, corporations and even cities face, and how their businesses and communities are employing greener growth and sustainability, as well as resilience strategies to mitigate and minimise threats to our future.The fireside chat will be hosted by CEO of The Body Shop (Malaysia), Datin Mina Cheah-Foong, and Royal Patron Y.A.M. Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The Panel Session titled “Breaking Free From Plastic and Building Green Cities”, will feature regional panelists such as Muhammad Bijaksana Junerosano (Sano) of Waste4Change Indonesia and Greeneration Indonesia; Von Hernandez of Break Free From Plastic; Sustainability Advocate Matthias Gelber a.k.a The Greenest Man On Earth; Ramli Tahir, General Manager of KDEB Waste Management; and Tn.Haji Ahmad Khalif of Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd.
