Claims payouts of up to RM500,000 to be made within 48 hoursKUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- AmGeneral Insurance Berhad (“AmGeneral Insurance”) on 7 November 2017 announced it will make interim payments of up to RM500,000 on valid property and motor insurance claims to Penang flood victims within 48 hours from the usual seven working days.
To date, AmGeneral Insurance units, Kurnia Insurans and AmAssurance, have already made fast-tracked interim payments to over 60 flood claims since the process was initiated.
AmGeneral Insurance CEO Derek Roberts said: “We would like to express our sympathy to the people of Penang, particularly those affected by the floods. We have fast-tracked our claims process in order to provide claimants with financial comfort and reassurance in the shortest possible time during this challenging time.”
For retail business owners, AmGeneral Insurance will allow its adjusters to authorise direct settlements for claims below RM30,000.
For commercial business owners, fast-track measures implemented include allowing adjusters to exercise their discretion on the appointment of a restorer to determine the reparability of affected properties and to expedite repairs.
For retail customers, there is a special consideration in terms of waiving checks on the adequacy of the sums insured for claims below RM30,000; this will greatly benefit retail customers.
AmGeneral Insurance urges claimants to contact AmGeneral Insurance’s Auto Assist at the toll-free numbers of
1800 88 3833 (Kurnia Insurans) and
1300 88 2647 (AmAssurance).
At the same time, more than 300 Penang-based agents and adjusters are already working with customers to process claims.
“We urge all claimants to contact our hotline numbers or reach out to their respective agents so that adjusters can assess damage and help expedite all claims processes in the aftermath of this natural calamity,” Derek Roberts explained.
