PETRONAS REACHES OUT TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN PENANG

Friday 10/11/2017

PENANG, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS has reached out to the victims of the recent floods in Penang by providing food aid to about 1,000 families in the state.

The aid was distributed starting yesterday through PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) to 100 families currently relocated at the SK Padang Menora Disaster Evacuation Centre, north of Seberang Prai. Another 100 families received food aid via two PETRONAS stations at Sg. Lokan (Seberang Prai Utara) and Taman Pauh (Permatang Pauh), where surrounding communities were badly affected by the flood.

The effort continues today at another eight evacuation centres and eight PETRONAS stations in the state.

The aid, consisting of essential and dry food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, biscuits, coffee, canned food, milk and drinking water as well as hygiene kits are being distributed in collaboration with the states’ Flood Coordination Committees and Welfare Department.

Representing PETRONAS was Lita Osman, General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, who distributed the food aid together with Ruziah Azdi Abdul Rahman, PDB’s Head of Strategic Communications.

Lita Osman said, “The recent floods have been one of the worst to have hit the northern parts of the country in recent times.

“We hope our contribution, under our Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS programme, will assist in the overall relief efforts to help the affected families.”

Among those affected is single mother Rozita Said, who had no choice but to relocate since last Monday due to the rising water level. Having recently lost her husband, she is now shouldering the responsibility of caring for her five children on her own.

Apart from providing relief assistance during disasters, Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS reaches out to the underprivileged communities during festive seasons as well as prior to the start of the school year to provide “back-to-school” aid for school children.
