Wednesday 13/12/2017

PETALING JAYA, Dec 13 (Bernama) --  Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), is pleased to announce that its Chairman, YBhg. Datuk Seri Haji Rizuan Abd Hamid, has received the award for the "Leadership in Global Halal Industry Development", at the Malaysia International Business Awards 2017 Gala Dinner, held at Shah Alam last night.

This award is another significant achievement for HDC itself and acknowledges Datuk Seri Rizuan's vision, leadership and dedication towards steering the development of Halal Industry.

Datuk Seri Rizuan remarked the presentation of the award as a positive denotation of HDC's vision and mission in establishing Malaysia as the leader in the global Halal industry, and to create value for businesses participating in the Industry and to benefit Malaysia's economy.

"I am grateful to have been recognised with the award and would like to thank Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia Negeri Selangor for selecting me as the recipient. This award is another milestone for HDC and is a firm acknowledgement that we are on the right track in intensifying high valued-added activities within the industry.

"Likewise, HDC will not rest on its laurels and will strengthen its efforts towards developing and promoting the Halal sector and initiative respectively, in Malaysia as well as throughout the world. The country has identified the prospective of the Halal economy very early on, and over the years has nurtured a Halal eco-system that has positioned Malaysia as the forefront of this burgeoning industry," Datuk Seri Rizuan added.

HDC’s striving commitments in developing the Halal industry began through its establishment in 2006, which later initiated the Halal Industry Development Master Plan (HIMP) 2008-2020, aiming to drive Halal as a new source of economic growth. This is in line with the Government’s efforts in diversifying Malaysia's economic activities of which Halal exports has now contributed to 7% of total exports value and is increasing yearly.

Malaysia is also persistently committed in the pursuit of Halal Agenda and this is reflected through the formation of the National Halal Council which is chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato’ Sri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
