  TESCO BRINGS THE MAGIC OF ONG FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR 2018

Tesco Malaysia offers an abundance of Ong with fantastic deals, festive range and rewards to usher the lunar New Year 

KEPONG, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Tesco Malaysia is proud to present the Magic of Ong 2018 campaign through a grand launch event to highlight its effort in offering a one-stop-centre to experience the magic of Ong through key product lines, specials and rewards for the Chinese New Year season.
 
The event was launched by the minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin together with Tesco Malaysia CEO, Paul Ritchie at Kepong Village Mall. At the event, the minister also launched Festive Food Collection Programme to allow customers to donate food items to the less fortunate.
 
Speaking at the event, the CEO of Tesco Malaysia said, “As with all festivals and celebrations in Malaysia, Chinese New Year is a very important time of the year for our customers and therefore we strive to ensure that they can have the best possible celebration. Although today’s campaign launch is within the Chinese New Year festive period, what we have in store is for all our customers to enjoy”.
 
“Not forgetting the community, from 15 January – 15 February, Tesco and its partners; Food Aid Foundation and Kechara Soup Kitchen will launch a community food collection programme beginning in all of our stores nationwide for customers to join in the effort to collect more food and help more people. Together with Kechara Soup Kitchen and PitStop Community Cafe, we will also host 5 ‘Street Reunion Dinners’ for 800 disadvantaged senior citizens in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor to ensure that they too can celebrate the festive season among friends,” he added.
 
Great Offers, Fantastic Deals
With major investment in Fresh range, Tesco is bringing various seasonal items for Chinese New Year this year such as Ngaku, Mandarin Oranges, Abalone, Halal Ipoh Salted Chicken, Halal Frozen Duck and Tambak Pomfret fish from Sabah. Exclusive at Tesco only and for limited time, Tesco is proud to present Emperor Red Snapper fish which is recommended to be the main dish for your Chinese New Year reunion dinner. The fish is sourced locally from Penang and delivered daily to Tesco stores nationwide. There are also seasonal imported fruits from Australia such as Cherries, Plums, Nectarines and Peaches and Apricots to add on to the variety of fruits offered during Chinese New Year.

Apart from the Fresh range, there are promotions on family traditional costumes as well as the famous family t-shirt range from Tesco which are sold at 50% starting today until Chinese New Year’s eve while stocks last. Tesco Malaysia is also bringing back cookies range for CNY from Macau and local confectionaries, housewares, home décor and instant vouchers redemption for every hampers selections.

The Magic of Ong 2018
Something new to look out during the Magic of Ong campaign in Tesco is a magician appearance in selected Tesco stores while you shop. This magician will help you create magical moments and give a memorable shopping experience at Tesco. Tesco will be the only place to experience the magic of Ong while you usher the new Lunar year. Look out for the magician appearance at Tesco stores near you to let you get lucky and more ong.
 
Launch of Community Food Collection
In conjunction with Chinese New Year celebration, Tesco together with its charity partner, KECHARA Soup Kitchen and Food Aid Foundation is launching a Community Food Collection to enable customers to donate food items to the less fortunate during this festive season. The collection starts from 15 Jan until 15 Feb 2018 at all 57 Tesco stores nationwide. This program is on top of daily food surplus donation made by Tesco stores through its charity partners.

Discount coupons for Tesco Clubcard members
More ‘Ong’ for Tesco Clubcard members where Tesco will be giving away significant amount of saving coupons for an in-store redemption for every spending made from 11 Jan – 21 Feb 2018. The coupon is personalised to Clubcard members’ and will be given for any spending made for savings in their next purchase.
 
The Magic of Ong Contests and Vouchers Giveaways
Shopping at Tesco Malaysia for Chinese New Year is certainly rewarding. With every purchase worth RM100 and above in one receipt, customers will stand a chance to win Tesco vouchers worth up to half a million Ringgit Malaysia through an online contest. Customers will then have to log on to Tesco website, www.tesco.com/ongmali to register the magic number and personal details. 228 winners will receive RM2, 000 worth of Tesco vouchers will be drawn at random on weekly basis from 15 Jan until 4 Feb 2018. On top of that, 11 lucky registered customers may win extra vouchers worth RM4,000 when their codes get selected on “LUCKY DAY”.

All Food Court of Tesco is giving away 88,888 pieces of Fish-shaped Bahulu with minimum spend of RM8 in a single receipt from 1st Feb – 4th Feb 2018 and another round from 8th Feb until 11th Feb 2018 while stock last. This is one way of bringing back the traditional delicacies and to let the new generation to try it.
