GIANT LAUNCHES NEW HYPERMARKET AT FALIM

Friday 09/02/2018

Dato Basaruddin Drum ceremony

IPOH, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Giant today revealed its latest retail experience for Malaysian customers at the launch of Giant Hypermarket Falim (GIANT FALIM) here. The event began with the unveiling of the new store followed by a multiracial drumline performance in view of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations. On hand to mark the occasion were Puan Rossana Anizah, Country Chairman, Jardines Matheson; Mr Pierre-Olivier Deplanck, Chief Executive Officer, GCH Retail; and Mr Ian Mcleod, Group Chief Executive Officer, Dairy Farm Group.

“The new Giant Falim is exactly the kind of retail experience that can help Malaysians in different ways. We also see an additional commitment to Made in Malaysia products and goods as the new Citarasa Malaysia area demonstrates; which is so important in helping local industries. This new hypermarket shows Giant’s continuing investment in new stores to serve Malaysians; their focus on creating jobs for local communities; and their established reputation for helping improve the lives of their employees, customers, and the greater communities around their stores as well,” said Dato’ Seri Hamzah Bin Zainudin, Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC).

Giant is recognised for offering the freshest produce in the most vibrant, comfortable and complete shopping environments in Malaysia. Along with everyday low prices, big variety and great value, it is Malaysia’s leading hypermarket with over a hundred outlets nationwide, employing over 8,000 people and serving an average of 8 million customers a month.

The launch of Giant Hypermarket Falim is part of Giant’s new direction in 2018 that will see it further expanding its locations and fresh produce offerings throughout the country. Giant Falim is one of the largest in Peninsula Malaysia’s Northern States covering 102,794 square feet and offering more than 23,000 products across almost 200 categories.

The store is located approximately 4km from Ipoh’s town centre and is equipped with more than 1,000 parking bays for both motorcycles and cars, providing ample accessibility and comfort for Giant’s customers and their families. It will employ a total of 400 people directly, while supporting additional jobs in the area through the hiring of local businesses, products and services.

“As the leading food retailer for Malaysia where we serve over 8 million customers every month, we strive to meet the needs of our customers and the communities with a store that they can trust, delivering quality, service and value,” said Mr. Pierre-Olivier Deplanck, Chief Executive Officer, GCH (Retail) Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

The launch of the new Giant also saw it beginning its efforts to help local communities immediately as Giant Falim worked with MyKasih Foundation for The Food Aid project. Through this, RM50,000 is being contributed to support and improve the lives of 50 underprivileged families around Falim for a year, by providing them with monthly grocery shopping allowances at Giant Falim.

Local Flavours Enhanced

At the launch event, guests were given a tour of the hypermarket by Mr Pierre-Olivier Deplanck. The tour highlighted Giant’s extensive range of fresh food, meats, produce and the latest introduction - a dedicated Malaysian Delights or Citarasa Malaysia area.

“A unique feature at Giant Falim is the Citarasa Malaysia area. We believe that this specially curated selection of local Malaysian products will allows our customers to get the exclusive spices, herbs and sauce mixtures from across the country in an easily accessible manner,” added Deplanck.

The first Giant in the country to offer this, the Citarasa Malaysia area will allow Giant to further emphasise and assist Malaysian producers of the freshest, highest quality items to offer their products to customers at Giant.

Part of that commitment includes a collaboration between Giant and AmaxMall - an e-commerce & retail marketing platform - that was also announced today. The collaboration will provide enhanced opportunities for Malaysian producers to better penetrate the market here with their products through Giant’s extensive retail network. It will also be part of the brand’s efforts to continue working with Malaysian companies and the Government to support the growth and development of local communities and the greater economy of the country.

Giant Hypermarket Falim is open daily. Weekdays from 9.00 am – 11 pm and weekends from 8.00 am – 11.00 pm
