EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL AND MIMOS INTRODUCE ONLINE TEST FOR SPM, STPM LEAVERS TO AID CAREER SELECTION

Friday 16/03/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) and MIMOS have introduced an online instrument called Prospek Kerjaya (PK) that can help Sixth Form College and Secondary School leavers to make more justified decisions in choosing their future field of studies and career.

Combining MIMOS’ technology expertise and MPM's expertise in the development and management of education assessment, PK is a test that assesses aptitudes and career inclinations of individuals, which are then matched to the appropriate fields of study and career options. This digital test can be accessed online at any time.

In its pilot test, a total of 47 students from Kolej Tingkatan Enam Desa Mahkota, Kepong have taken the PK, while 125 sixth formers from various schools throughout Malaysia have sat for this test on its launch day on March 6.

The system also compiles data on fields of study from all Public and Private Institutions of Higher Education that can be used to guide test takers.  At present, institutions that have begun to use the PK include MARA Poly-Tech College (KPTM), Perdana University, UCSI University, Asia-Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.

In addition to recommending areas of learning and career options, the PK also provides information on institutions that offer the relevant academic programmes. The use of digital assessment technology is expected to contribute towards the advancement of the country’s educational institutions through the intake of students who possess appropriate aptitudes and career interests.

MIMOS and MPM have undertaken collaborative research and development (R&D) since early 2017, before signing a Memorandum of Understanding during the same year to enable the latter to use PK in the assessment of students in Malaysia.

Both agencies are scheduled to participate in several educational and career carnivals nationwide from March through May to give students the opportunity to try out the PK.  For more information about this test, please visit https://portal.mpm.edu.my
