Hypermarket targets to raise RM400,000 to support underserved adopted schools

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Tesco Malaysia’s annual fund raising event for the Tesco School Adoption Programme is back and this time is in Ipoh, Perak. The charity walkathon event is one of Tesco’s annual fund raising activities in addition to the funds allocated by the company to support 61 underserved adopted school nationwide.
 
The 3 kilometer scenic walkathon event is targeted to attract 4,000 participants and to raise RM400,000 in cash and in kind which will be channelled fully to eight adopted schools in Perak state. The beneficiary schools are SK Seri Kepayang, Ipoh, SK De La Salle, Kampar, SK Pengkalan Pagoh, Ipoh, SK Bendang Siam, Changkat Jering, SK Pengakalan Bharu, Gopeng, SMK Tambun, Ipoh, SK Suak Padi, Bota and SK Dato’ Ishak, Lumut.  
 
Tesco Walk for Kids 2018 event is expected to be launched by Y.A.M. Raja Dato' Seri Yong Sofia binti Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah who has agreed to grace the event together with Tesco Malaysia and PINTAR Foundation officials.

Tesco’s Corporate Services Director, Azliza Azmel said, “We are delighted to bring this event to Ipoh, Perak this time as we want to help schools in different region through this fund-raising event. Apart from raising funds, we believe that this event is a great platform to bring families together and to stay active during the weekend.”
 
“Last year’s event received tremendous support from our own colleagues, suppliers, community as well as parents and teachers. With the funds raised, the schools were able to make immediate improvement on important facilities such as toilets, library, assembly halls, canteen fixtures and building roof for students’ waiting area. This time, we look forward to provide financial assistance for eight schools in Perak to assist them in improving essential facilities which these schools have identified,” added Azliza.
 
Walk for Kids 2018 registration is now open. Registration fee for adult is RM50 per person while children below 17 years old is RM20 per person. For each registration, participant will receive a t-shirt, goody bags containing sponsored items and a limited edition finisher medal (for first 1000 participants only). Alternatively, registration can be made at customer service counters at Tesco Extra Ipoh, Tesco Kampar, Tesco Station 18, Tesco Taiping, Tesco Ipoh and Tesco Seri Iskandar. Those interested may also register at the registration counter on the day of the event.

Highlights of the event includes physical challenge such planking, push-up, squat challenge and skipping challenge with great prizes. Attractive lucky draws prizes are also available to be won by the participants. The event will also feature performances by the beneficiary schools.
 
Tesco Malaysia launched its School Adoption Program together with PINTAR Foundation as part of its contribution in education of the children in the community in 2016. The three-year adoption program allows Tesco to support all 61 adopted schools around the country in terms of education, student welfare, nutritional awareness and greener living initiatives.
