SURABAYA, Indonesia, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- CIMB Foundation (“the Foundation”) today officially went ASEAN-wide with its flagship Community Link programme through the launch of its Community Link in Indonesia in conjunction with the latter’s “Kejar Mimpi” Leader’s Camp, aimed at helping Indonesian youths realise their full potential, achieve their dreams and become valued citizens of tomorrow.

The “Kejar Mimpi” initiative, which was organised by CIMB Niaga at the Airlangga University, demonstrates CIMB Group’s firm commitment to and leadership in corporate social responsibility (CSR) by empowering and engaging its employees at CIMB branches across the region to champion initiatives that will leave a lasting impact in their respective local communities.

Replicating the successful Community Link programme in Indonesia is in line with CIMB Group’s announcement in November 2017 on its pledge of 1% Group PBT for CSR activities region-wide, to benefit more communities and change more lives across the region.

The event brought together 500 high school and university students at sharing sessions by Indonesia’s entrepreneurs and youth icons from industries like health and technology. It was officiated by Dato’ Mohd Shukri Hussin, a Trustee of CIMB Foundation and Fransiska Oei, Director of Compliance, Corporate Secretary and Legal of CIMB Niaga.

Dato’ Hamidah Naziadin, CEO of CIMB Foundation said, “The backbone of our Community Link programme is our people and we attribute the success of this flagship programme to our own employees who are empowered to champion causes in their respective communities. Since the inception of Community Link, we have supported a wide range of projects that have left a lasting impact on the communities where we operate, giving life to the saying “think global, act local”.

We are confident that this employee-led approach will be successfully replicated in Indonesia and the rest of ASEAN, in line with our aim to instil a caring and giving culture in CIMB.”

Fransiska Oei, Director of Compliance, Corporate Secretary and Legal of CIMB Niaga, commented, “We are equally committed in developing and uplifting the local communities in Indonesia through education, community development, environment, and other philanthropic activities. CIMB Niaga looks forward to roll-out more initiatives under the Community Link programme as we believe that the employee-led and customer-led approaches are effective in bringing about positive changes with sustainable long term benefits to the local communities.”

Since its inception in 2007, the Foundation has disbursed RM 40.2 million through 800 projects under the Community Link Programme benefitting around 600,000 Malaysians. Key focus areas under the programme include socio-economic development, unity, culture and heritage, homes and shelters, environment, health, sports, and education. The Community Link Programme will be rolled-out in Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia in phases with the aim of strengthening CIMB’s corporate responsibility agenda regionally.
