HAIKOU, China, Sept. 7, 2018 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/-- In late August, international communication experts gathered in Haikou City, Hainan Province. They were invited to a seminar themed "Innovating communication modes, telling Hainan stories, enhancing international communication -- building Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone (Port)", to brainstorm on the future of international communication in Hainan, which was held by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee.
Since the establishment of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and the free trade port with Chinese characteristics in Hainan in April 2018, more and more people worldwide have paid closer attention to the coastal province. To this end, more innovation in international communication are expected there.
Bruce Davidson, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Associated Press said his first impression about Hainan was its landscape and investment attraction, worth the name of "Hawaii of China". He suggested that Hainan should more stand in the shoes of target audiences, provide the media with stories that are more reliable and attractive and feature rich multimedia elements like picture and video, and share with the outside world through mainstream social media including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Professor Zhong Xin from the School of Journalism and Communication at Renmin University of China believed that cultivation and development of Nanfan breeding, deepsea technology, aerospace technology and other industries could explore new soft power resources for Hainan. That is to say, this could bring better communication effect, improving Hainan's international image and attractiveness.
Frank Sieren, Chief Representative of Handelsblatt in China, expressed that Hainan boasted the superior natural environment and the momentum of rapid development. Such two advantages were peculiar to this province. Sieren's point of view stems from the experience of a Ukrainian architect. After staying in New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Haikou, the architect was convinced that only the last station could give him the ideal living and working environment. "Almost everyone has such a dream: a livable environment and a satisfying job, which are the most persuasive and attractive propaganda images of Hainan."
Sun Jing, Director of International Business Development Department, News and Information Center, Xinhua News Agency, shared a wealth of international communication cases from many provinces and cities at home. He emphasized that to do international communication well, we should build a distinctive image, tell a riveting story and innovate a concept.
Officials of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Committee, the publicity departments and tourism development committees at city and county levels, teachers and students from some universities in Hainan and media leaders were present at the seminar.
