TOP THAI BRANDS 2018 OPENS UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR MALAYSIAN AND THAI BUSINESSES

Wednesday 19/09/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Top Thai Brands 2018, the foremost and largest showcase of Thai products and services, was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 9 to 12 August. The only one of its kind in Malaysia, the event promoted quality Thai brands in seven product categories including food and beverage (F&B), wellness (health, cosmetics and spa products), packaging, household products, fashion accessories, kids’ products and pet products.

The event featured 70 exhibitors and attracted more than 4,000 visitors over four exciting days. It demonstrated how Thai creativity can tremendously benefit Malaysian entrepreneurs and add value to their businesses. The exhibition successful generated 232 business matches between Thai and Malaysian companies.

Among the Thai products that caught the attention of Malaysian businesses were food products, leather products, plastics and environmentally-friendly packaging. The event concluded with trade deals worth an estimated RM 9 million.

Mrs. Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat, Director General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Thai Ministry of Commerce, presided over the exhibition. Mrs. Chantira believes that the trade volume between Thailand and Malaysia is poised to further expand by at least 15% in 2018. ASEAN member countries are required to work harder and closer with their counterparts to get more Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) signed to support the liberalising and facilitation of trade in both goods and services.

Additionally, Malaysia’s Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) had a dialogue with the Thai Minister of Commerce to discuss the facilitation of trade between the two countries, particularly border trade. Issues raised during the meeting with the MITI minister included finding ways to reduce the non-tariff barriers through the mechanism of a Joint Trade Committee which is scheduled to be held before the year end; cooperation between the two countries on palm oil and durian exports as well as Tun Mahathir’s new ASEAN car initiative.

Although Top Thai Brands 2018 has come to a close, Thai exhibitors continue to seek opportunities to form business partnerships with Malaysian entrepreneurs. The complete list of exhibitors and products can be found at www.topthaibrands.lively.com.my
