ACCA LAUNCHES ACCA INTERNARY PROGRAMME TO SUPPORT TALENT PIPELINE OF PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANTS IN MALAYSIA

Thursday 11/10/2018

A collaboration between ACCA, Public Universities and ACCA Approved Employers

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) today officially launched the ACCA INternary Programme – a first of its kind Academic-Industry-Professional Body collaboration in Malaysia.

An initiative by ACCA in collaboration with selected public universities and ACCA Approved Employers, the ACCA INternary Programme provides undergraduates of Accounting degrees with an accelerated pathway to study for a professional qualification while completing the industrial experience required to qualify as an ACCA Chartered Certified Accountant, all within 2 years of graduation from the university.

The launch was graced by Professor Dr Noor Azizi Ismail, Deputy Director General of Higher Education. The inaugural group of participating parties in this programme are Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), as well as elite employers such as Maybank, PwC, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, Baker Tilly Monteiro Heng, Grant Thornton Malaysia and Paramount Corporation Berhad.

ACCA’s Chief Executive, Helen Brand OBE was in Malaysia to officiate this innovative partnership between ACCA, academia and employers - designed to help nurture the professional accountants Malaysia most needs, through a multi-faceted and integrated approach to their development.

“In support of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 which places emphasis on graduate employability and readiness to work, ACCA is honoured to play a key role in creating partnerships with educators and employers to support undergraduates towards a fast-track path to becoming future-ready professional accountants.”

Malaysia’s vision for the future is predicated on having 60,000 professional accountants in the market by 2020. This ambitious target will only be met if all parts of the accountancy ecosystem work together in concert to support the creation of rounded, ethical 21st century professionals.”

The ACCA INternary Programme brings together employers and public universities to develop well-rounded graduates who are both geared up for the industry and well prepared to qualify as professional accountants. The universities’ commitment to teaching ACCA papers in the degree programme will ensure students are well supported in their ACCA journey. Meanwhile, the employers’ commitment to support the year-long internship provides the students with the relevant experience needed towards qualifying as ACCA member and also potential future employability.

The programme is in support of the Ministry of Education’s effort to strengthen work-based learning through partnership with the industry is espoused through the 2u2i mode of learning. The 2u2i is the mode of learning that supports the blending of classroom and internship in the industry and well entrenched to support flexible education as envisioned by the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education). The ACCA INternary Programme is in fact a 3u1i mode of learning whereby students will study in campus for three years and one full year of internship in the industry while also pursuing the ACCA qualification.

Exactly one year ago, drawing from ACCA’s wide research into the future of the profession and a two-year review and consultation with members, employers and learning providers, ACCA unveiled major innovations to its professional qualification. The result is a ground-breaking re-design of the ACCA Qualification that is tailored to meet the strategic challenges of the 21st century’s disruptive economy.

“As an organisation with a reputation for innovation, vision and leadership in the profession, ACCA has responded accordingly with a qualification that we believe offers the complete and essential blend of technical and ethical skills mixed with strategic leadership and professional skills required to transform students into the confident, inspiring and trusted business partners that employers need,” added Helen Brand.

The timely launch of the ACCA INternary Programme, with a commitment from the academic, professional and employer towards experiential learning that incorporates practical real life scenarios - have the opportunity to make a lasting difference to the next generation and help develop the accountancy profession Malaysia truly needs.
