  MINISTER OF PRIMARY INDUSTRIES YB TERESA KOK TO LEAD PALM OIL ECONOMIC, PROMOTION AND INVESTMENT MISSION TO THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FROM 21 - 28 OCTOBER 2018

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- YB Teresa Kok, Minister of Primary Industries will be leading a Palm Oil, Economic, Promotion and Investment Mission to the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America (USA) from 21 to 28 October 2018.

Her delegation will comprise officials from the Ministry of Primary Industries, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Palm Oil Council.

The mission aims to explore market and investment opportunities, and industry collaborations between Malaysia and the two countries, as well as provide platform for Malaysia to discuss and address issues related to trade and market access with the two countries.

In Nanjing, China, YB Teresa Kok will officiate at the Malaysia-China Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar (POTS) 2018. POTS China 2018, themed “Enhance Trade, Maximise Opportunities through Malaysian Palm Oil", is one of the anticipated gatherings of eminent experts in the field of oils and fats. It will provide an insight into the trade and investment opportunities in the palm oil sector.

The Minister will also visit Wilmar Global Research & Development Center and River & Ocean Cereals and Oils Group Co. Ltd for an insight into their oils and fats operations in China.

In San Francisco, USA, she will be a special guest at “An Enchanted Evening with Martin Yan”, the launching event of celebrated Chef Martin Yan’s new television series “Taste of Malaysia with Martin Yan” which will be premier on USA’s KQED 9 channel.

The launching event will feature an eight-course banquet of classic Malaysian dishes at H.L. Peninsula Restaurant in South San Francisco. YB Teresa will also speak with food writers to promote palm oil as cooking oil during her visit.

In the USA, YB Minister will also visit Wilmar Oils & Fats plant in Stockton, California, as well as meet Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) trade representatives.

To wrap up her mission in USA, YB Teresa Kok will meet Malaysian Diasporas in San Francisco.

Trade relations between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China have been strong, particularly in palm oil and palm oil based products which was recorded at RM9.88 billion in 2017.That year, the total value of Malaysia’s export of palm oil and palm oil based products to the People’s Republic of China was RM9.42 billion, an increase of 6.4% compared to RM8.85 billion the year before.

Malaysia’s trade between USA was recorded at RM4.87 billion in 2017. The total export value of palm oil products in 2017 was RM4.58 billion, an increase of 16.2% compared to RM3.94 billion in 2016.
