BE A HERO FOR UNDERSERVED SCHOOLSJOHOR BAHRU, Feb 14 (Bernama) --Tesco Malaysia’s annual fundraising event Walk for Kids is back again and this time to support nine underserved schools in Johor, as part of the Tesco – PINTAR Foundation School adoption programme.
The charity walkathon will be held at Tesco Mutiara Rini on 13
th April 2019 where families, children, students, teachers and local community walking a 3km and 5km scenic route within the hypermarket compound and the park vicinity of Hutan Bandar Mutiara Rini.
This year, Tesco is targeting to raise more than RM400,000 of funds from participation fees, cash donations and in-kind contribution from Tesco’s business partners and suppliers. All contribution will be channelled fully to support Tesco’s adopted schools SK Taman Puteri Wangsa, SK Taman Universiti 2, SK Taman Molek, SK Tanjung Puteri, SK Taman Rinting 1, SK Taman Pelangi, SK Seri Pandan, SK Kota Masai and SJKT Ladang Kulai Besar. More than 4,000 people are expected to take part in Tesco Malaysia’s Walk for Kids 2019 fun run and walkathon to enjoy a healthy weekend.
“Our ‘Walk for Kids’ events held in Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh received a great response with more than 7,000 participants in the last two years. Together, we’ve been able to raise over RM800,000 to help the schools make improvements to their schools facilities from updating and improving the students’ toilets, school canteens, libraries, school hall and computer labs,” said Azliza Azmel, Corporate Services Director of Tesco Malaysia.
Walk For Kids 2019 is now open for registration with two open categories for all ages: RM50 for 5km Run and RM30 for 3km Fun Walk. Each participants will receive an ULTRON branded t-shirt and a goodie bag. The first 1,000 finishers of the 5km run category will receive a limited edition medal and the top 3, 5km run finishers will receive a cash prize of RM1,000, RM500 and RM250 respectively. There will also be lucky draw prizes worth more than RM10,000 which includes a 60-inch Smart TV, smartphone, DJI Osmo Pocket and many more exciting prizes awaiting to be won.
This year marks the third year of partnership with PINTAR Foundation, where Tesco Malaysia has contributed over RM 3 million for student welfare, health and nutrition awareness and greener living initiatives. Through year 2018, in partnership with MARDI, 16 of Tesco’s adopted schools across Peninsular Malaysia had just completed their very own
Program Kebun Dapur (Edible Garden Programme).
