KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Yayasan PETRONAS, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of PETRONAS, recently distributed RM200,000 in cash and kind to 1,500 beneficiaries, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
 
The festive programme, Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS Chinese New Year (CNY) 2019, was first held in Sarawak followed by Melaka, Selangor, Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
 
PETRONAS volunteers, comprising 100 employees from various PETRONAS operations, handed out basic necessities, household items, ang pows and hampers to the less privileged as well as participated in gotong royong and Disability Awareness Training programmes.
 
Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan PETRONAS Lita Osman said the programme allows employees to consistently and collectively contribute their time and effort towards the improvement in quality of life for the less privileged.
 
“We believe that good can flourish through collective acts of kindness and we want more Malaysians to thrive together,” she added.
 
PETRONAS volunteer Siti Sarah Mokhtar said: “I’m glad to be given the opportunity to connect with the less fortunate. I’ve also developed so much respect for the caretakers who do an amazing job day in day out. It’s quite a humbling experience.”
 
President of Selangor Cheshire Home Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulaiman said: “The love and passion shown by PETRONAS volunteers cheered up the residents during this festive period. We are also grateful that the compound of the Home is looking really good after the gotong-royong.”
 
Yayasan PETRONAS collaborated with volunteers from the Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB), Association of Wives and Women Staff of PETRONAS (PETRONITA), staff of PETRONAS subsidiary PETRONAS Carigali Sarawak Gas (SK Gas), as well as those at the Pusat Khidmat DUN Chetok and the Kelab Media Kelantan Darul Naim (KEMUDI).
 
The Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS programme is held in conjunction with major festive celebrations in Malaysia. It provides an avenue for Yayasan PETRONAS to assist the community, providing basic needs and contribute to the wellbeing and quality of life of society. This is in line with Yayasan PETRONAS’ commitment to contribute to the well-being of the society in three key focus areas, namely Education, Community Well-being & Development, and Environment.
