  SELANGOR STATE INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE FOR YEAR 2018

SHAH ALAM, March 20 (Bernama) -- Selangor State Government through Invest Selangor Berhad successfully organized a Press Conference on the ‘Selangor State Investment Performance For Year 2018’ held at Lobby Dewan Annex, Bangunan Annex, Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor, Shah Alam, Selangor, today.
 
‘Selangor State Investment Performance For Year 2018’, was officially announced by Y.A.B Tuan Amirudin bin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor (Chief Minister of Selangor) at this press conference which mentioned the performance of Selangor State Investment for 2018 as a whole, was very good and historic for the state of Selangor and Invest Selangor Berhad. Achievement of Investment Performance for year 2018 not only exceeds the target but setting a new record in more than 30 years.
 
Total Approved Manufacturing Project in 2018
From the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) 2018 statistics released recently, 241 manufacturing projects have been approved in Selangor for the year 2018, which is the highest in the country compared to 202 manufacturing projects in 2017. This is an increase of 19% in terms of number of projects.

Total Approved Investment in Manufacturing Sector in 2018
While the total value of approved investment amounted to RM18.947 billion compared to RM5.592 billion in 2017. The remarkable achievement was an increase of 238% over the previous year and this was the highest direct investment ever recorded.
 
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
Impressive achievement was also translated through confidence shown by foreign investors whose Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) showed an increase of 400.7% over to the previous year. In 2018, Selangor received RM10.837 billion Foreign Direct Investment, compared to the previous year, RM2.164 billion.
 
Domestic Direct Investment (DDI)
Investment by domestic investors also showed a significant increase of 136% over the previous year. In 2018, a total of RM8.11 billion contributed by domestic investors, compared to RM3.427 billion in 2017.
 
New Investment vs Expansion / Diversification Investment
The new investment also recorded an increased of 427%, which was RM13.522 billion in 2018, compared to RM2.565 billion that recorded in 2017. Expansion/Diversification Investment recorded an increase of 79.2% compared to the previous year, in which RM5.42 billion was recorded in 2018, while RM3.026 billion recorded in 2017.
 
Potential Employment
From all above, 18,475 potential employment has been created in the manufacturing sector in year 2018, which was the highest in the country and also has increased by 84%, compared to 10,031 employment opportunities in 2017.

Investment by Foreign Investors
In terms of investment by foreign investors, investment from China was the highest in terms of value with RM3.934 billion been invested last year. They were invested in basic metal products (such as hot rolled coils, cold rollled coils ), paper (such as wet pulp board, corrugated box, kraftliner board etc) and other sector.
 
While Japan, has the highest number of project with 27  projects approved last year amounting to RM435.6 million. They invested in semiconductor, factory automation parts, food industry (such as processed chicken & meat products), LED products, automotive and many more.
 
Approved Manufacturing Projects By Industry
The highest contribution for the Approved Manufacturing Projects by Industry was Basic Metal Products with RM6.892 billion, followed by Paper, Printing and Publishing (RM5.1 billion), Rubber Products with RM1.3 billion, Food Manufacturing (RM835 million) and Plastic Products with RM698 million.
 
Approved Investment in the Services Sector in 2018
Selangor also recorded the highest investment in the country for services sector with RM 5.784 billion was invested last year as compared to RM4.5 billion in year 2017. RM4.9 billion contributed by domestic investors and RM881.5 million by foreign investors. The investment in services sectors are mainly in oil & gas services, renewable energy, private healthcare, R&D activities, logistics and others.
 
The achievement of the performance also demonstrates the confidence of the international and local business community on the transparency and efficiency of the State Government as well as the effectiveness of the efforts that have been and will be implemented by the State Government through its investment promotion agency Invest Selangor Berhad as well as cooperation and support from government departments and agencies such as Local Authorities, District Offices and other technical agencies.
