KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Alena Murang, a Sarawak-born international artiste launched a music video at Ruang by Think City to bring the voices of the rivers to Malaysian in conjunction with the World Water Day 2019.
 
“I had seen images of the River of Life clean-up project and was so shocked that these are places we pass by in KL every day. I was shocked because we are so oblivious to it. Immediately I got in touch with Yasmin Rasyid, who runs EcoKnights, to start ideating how we could use the arts to emotionally connect people to this environmental issue. I offered the idea of using sape’ music, as our music speaks a lot about rivers,” said Alena Murang.
 
“JPS are very supportive towards any effort of the public promoting river care awareness. Through Alena and the making of this video, JPS hope to reach more people into realizing the government effort in river cleaning and bring everyone together under the spirit of River of Life,” said Tuan Haji Md. Khairi, Director of River Basin Management, Department of Irrigation and Drainage Headquarter.
 
This 3-minutes long music video was the idea and initiative from Alena Murang and is supported by the River of Life Public Outreach Program (ROLPOP). The music video featured some of the ROLPOP activities such as the log boom clean up and River Explorer Program, where different parties were brought in to experience and expose with the current state of the Klang Valley rivers. Facts and data about the rivers were presented in the video to enhance the educational impact of the video. The music video will used as educational material to educate public about our rivers in all River of Life KL projects and activities in government agencies under the Ministry of Federal Territories.
