KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), Ministry of Health Malaysia has issued a directive to recall a registered product Kin Foong San (Medicinal Powder) 4gm (MAL19972851T) for batch number VG05035. This is following analysis of product sampled from the market showed that it contained more than allowable limits of heavy metals mercury and cadmium.
Subsequently, the company has decided to voluntarily recall other batches in the market for further investigation. The batches involved are VG05036, VG05037, VG05038, VG05039, VG05040 and VG05041.
Kin Foong San (Medicinal Powder) 4gm is traditionally used for babies and children among others to reduce fever, for cough, toothache and stomachache.
Products contaminated with high levels of mercury can cause damage to the kidneys, disrupt the nervous system and brain development, while contamination with high levels of cadmium can cause harm to the kidneys and bone.
Consumers should immediately stop using Kin Foong San (Medicinal Powder) 4gm with the affected batch numbers and seek further advice from healthcare professionals, if experiencing any unpleasant effects or adverse events.
